  1. Oh yeah.......if anyone goes on Wednesday, stick around after the credits. They have a couple of outtakes that you don't see on the original.[/QUOTE]
I thought there might be something after the credits... but wife was anxious to get dinner at nearby Silver Diner. What were the out takes about?

The first one was Steve, Kurt, John and Toad sitting in back of a truck talking about going to the hop. It was obviously before the movie was shot and producers were looking to see how they all looked and sounded together on camera. Milner had long hair and a moustache, no one was in makeup. The producers said 'just talk about going to the hop'. No script. They just all ad libed as they went along. It was funny cuz Toad had really long hair and his face was blurred. It wasn't the Toad that's in the movie! The rest of the cast all seemed natural but Toad didn't cut it at all. Everything he said seem canned! He was obviously replaced.
The other scene was Steve and Lori at the hop when they were called out to dance. The beginning had the clapper board in front and the date was 5/23/72. They continued and Lori had her arms around Steve's neck as they danced and she had the script in her hand. She had to lift it up and refer to it a couple of times while she was doing the scene.

Luckily the weather improved around us and the theater opened up. I took my 47 Chevy. It was the only classic car there. There were about 20 people in the theater. You can see the details of the cars much better on the big screen. And it sounds so much better, especially when Milner uncorks the headers. IMG_0003.jpeg

Went to see it again tonight with my dad who had never seen it on the big screen, when it came out in '73.

We just got home. There was a red five window rod in the lot when we got there. Good to see it on the big screen again.

  7. Took the fetching Mrs Amigo to see AG tonight. Wanted to take the 53 but she informed me that a non-AC car with a black vinyl seat was “inappropriate” for a 25 minute drive in 100 degree weather! So, our cool (temperature-wise at least) OT van transported us to the theater where we were transported back in time. A great film. Sadly I saw no HAMB-appropriate cars in the lot and the theater was only about 1/3 full. But a true blast to see it again on the big screen in all its glory.

  9. Me and the wife went and watched AG on the big screen for the first time tonight. It was awsome to see details i could never see on a TV. Did anyone ever notic the Pharos merc had a license plate dated '56?

Yep to me it felt more “real” being able to see more detail such as some of the flaws in the car. The headliner in the Merc looked kind of homemade around the edges, and I thought that added character.

  11. 12CAAD0F-CA63-4BC7-A850-ABF534A43990.png We stayed around last night for the outtakes after the credits that a few of you mentioned, but we didn’t have them. Oh well.

The wife and I noticed a lot of things we hadn’t before seeing it on the big screen.

I’d swear I saw a chrome ratchet laying on the bottom near the frame of the overturned 55 after the drag race. Like a crew guy was working on it for the shot and left his tool behind.

You guys that say the TV version is fine don't know what you've missed. Hope I'm around when they bring it out again in say 10 years or so.

Add me to the list of those noticing the details or as some would call a "flaw" these days.

The paint on a few of the main cars, gaps on Milner's decklid, along with interior shots showing the less-than-perfect finish.

I loved seeing that stuff and I wish I could rewatch it to see more.

I realize they took advantage of the technology of the era not showing the details and that they prepped the cars to look good on film. But to me, they represent honest real-life hot rods.

There's a lot of time and effort I have spent (wasted?) chasing some just-beyond-reach level of imagined perfection. So, it was neat to imagine that the characters were just out there having a memorable night enjoying what they have to cruise the strip.
