Hot Rods American Graffitti Coupe Steering Wheel?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bad Bob, Feb 6, 2023.

  1. I had one of the 12" wheels on my 57 Pontiac. Subconsciously, I'd stick my fingers in the holes as I drove. One day I did that and couldn't get my damned finger back outta the hole! This was really bad because the car had a 4 speed in it. Had my girlfriend with me and between the 2 of us we were able to horse the car to her parent's house and lube up my finger with cooking oil!.

I had a wood rimmed superior steering wheel on a car in high school. Here is how dumb I was, I tried to put my finger in a hole and it didn't fit, I reached around the other side and pulled it thru!! . I had wrenches in my car (this happened in the HS parking lot) I removed the wheel and went into the school, no oil or grease would release my finger. I went to the metal shop and had a buddy use a hacksaw (boy it got hot) . it came off, I hammered the spoke back flat and put the wheel back on . I took a lot of crap over that

Bob, remember when Vince Gilbert broke his finger when he smacked the curb while parking the Scooby Doo Chevy/shag van with his finger in the spoke of the steering wheel at Bell High?

So @Bad Bob are you gonna auction that diamond off and get some other neat parts for the Coupe...

I wonder how long that detail has been in that Hotrod?

Hey the only thing I can compare in embarrassment was doing professional overhead casting while fishing standing at the riverside and burying a hook in the back of my head...way past the barb...I snipped off the line and went to emerg and they cut it out of big fishhead Stogy with a few stitches...I still laugh over that embarrassing thing to this day...at least you weren't driving and did it while making a turn...:D

I occasionally do the finger in the wheel-hole thing in my '33. I need to stop doing that.

I will say they used a 1971 vintage Ansen horn cap on that Grant graffiti wheel. See bottom right…in my 1971 Ansen catalog : C0483B17-06A8-4644-BB6B-0D40E2E662FC.jpeg
