Its like a free trip to the zoo....

  3. It may be the only car the Boyds crew has built in years that we might be able to relate with,,,,

It looks cool in the magazine.HRP

I see the Disco channel has already decided to call it a rat rod.

That car looked like virgin material. With all that talent, let them tackle a car like choprod's '34.

....new found respect for Blue Bear and more shit in the "Boyd is an ass" pail.

That A BB was building looks pretty awesome.....and a flathead to boot. He works for Jimmy White now? Sounds like he's found a home...

And that T was -almost- too nice to do that to. Make a full fendered rod with it at least...but to only use the body?

Anyway...back to watching the idiot box so I can make more comments...

Me too, w/the Blue Bear, K&R. And standing up and giving it back to 'Puffy' Boyd was a plus. Man, Bob Bauder place is remote...looked on the map.

Boyd's shop manager guy made it official...he is an ass after knocking that engine over. Wow, what a pro shop and operation [IMG]. Thank god I don't want a car like Boyd builds and ever wanted to use him for a builder (I ain't got that kind of money anyhows). I know things are staged but geez man. Im just glad the cool painter guy has moved on to someplace the will respect him now, he is so far above those clowns.

HEY, how come the junkyard Dawg '56 is on the rack in the background??? Do ya suppose you have to "tweak" a rushed build? [IMG]

too bad duane didn't really try to punch bluebear, it would have been funny to see (duane) get his ass handed to him. i don't believe for a minute that this is a case of 'editing' to make the show look dramatic. duane is proving himself to be an unrepentant acehole. i thin k that having him as the shop manager makes boyd look bad, or worse, if you already don't like him [IMG]...mf

I like the idea of racing the cars cross country. How can Boyd really beleive that one of his rides is more reliable than a flatty. And Boyd says BB is stubborn.

Man, I'm hip....I wondered if anyone else thought Boyds was a total clusterfuck place after this show came on. I missed a couple of them but after I started watching them I thought, "damn Boyd, do you have any idea how stupid this show makes you look ?" , I mean jeez, I almost felt like writing him a letter telling him to stop the suicide for his own sake. I had a pretty high opinion of him, the cars & quality of work that comes out of there before this show, after watching the first 2 I he let the air right out of my baloon...I thought what a bunch of half-assed idiots that have a "little" talent...then after watching the one where they went to build the 32 frame and everyone else went on some go-cart fiasco or something, any ideas I had of some magical shop where awesome shit is done start to finish was GONE. When I seen those two crackheads grind that big ass notch out of that brand new stainless steering arm because they didn't know that BRAKE SCOOPS went on the front, and put them on backwards then start choppin' stuff up because it's in the way ?...then stood there bitchin about how "this stuff should come with instructions", "can't believe they send us "these things" (like no one's ever seen them alien air scoops) with no instructions....I just about shit my pants wondering if they knew how stupid they just made themselves look NATIONALLY. A hotrod shop ? A bunch of ass-clowns.

They hire out all the metalshaping & body building to Marcell's ?....yeah, anyone can build hotrods if you run around SoCal specialty shops "buying" bodies and interiors, etc.

And what's up with the mean ex-wife being the book-keeper ?

And what's with him being so stupid as to let his hired help smart off to him and treat him like some rummy parts changer with stupid ideas ? I would have fired a couple of those assholes on the spot just for disrespect...they made him look like a buffoon.

I can't believe they stage all this stuff, if they do he's a bigger idiot than it appears because people think this is how the shop actually runs day in and day out. I'd never let this kind of stuff fly in my shop, and it never did and any shop I ever worked in while I was coming up, you didn't jack around.

If I EVER became the type of guy who had the money to buy a Boyd car I'd run from one after seeing that show, you couldn't give me a Boyd car now.

Ok, you could, but just send me the title and pictures so I could sell it on ebay.

    Rant off.

    Brian

Well, I saw the first 20 minutes then a car load of college kids decided to wreck. Nothing serious, just enough to screw up my tv watching [IMG] Thank God for my DVR I'll watch it tomorrow.

The first 20 min did give me a newfound respect for Bluebear. As for Boyd, even Street Rodder mag admitted the show made him look like a clown. He needs to crack the whip around there. I respect his cars for what they are though.

Either way I guess we should brace for an influx of newbies like me [IMG]

Most of the guys telling Boyd it looked like shit were guys who had been working with him for a while. And you'll notice that from the "leave it alone. It looks good." point to the "lets fuck with the quarter windows" point, the chop changed. Those guys weren't assholes, they were right. Boyd says he's an innovator.....but all he's doing is changing things for the sake of change.

I just got TV again, and have started watching all these "build-up" shows on Discovery. Every single one is the same- bikes, cars, whatever- you get some guy with an awesome shop and big rep, and people give him parts to bolt on. The 6 minutes of decent fabrication they show in any episode is barely worth sitting through all the stupid fighting and product placement. I think tonight's show was the worst one I've seen yet.

I'm going to bed so I can get up early and yank the motor out of a shitty old car and drive grease so far under my fingernails it won't come out until Thursday. No crate motors have magically starting showing up at MY shop yet...

Can anyone tell me where Charlie (the painter) is working now? He was about the only decent guy on that show along with Roy and Mike.

If Duane worked for me and he pulled that kind of crap pushing that engine off its blocks, he would be gone, no questions asked.

They fired that guy from Montana for losing his temper with Blue Bear and Duane did the same damn thing and cost Boyd, not Blue Bear, Boyd time and money there.

You know after seeing this show you gotta wonder why it was that Boyd went bankrupt so many times.

Another HAMB'r said Charlie went to join Chip Foose. That is cool. I really felt bad for him when his father passed away. Your choice of keeper's is right on. With hope, the 'producer's of this show will swing toward's tech, how to's and less moronic anger.

i agree with everyones assessment of boyd, duane, his shop etc. but imho blue bear needs his ass whipped just for being a punk and he knows less about building a car than my 16 year old daughter. he doesn't have a clue how to build a car, he's not even a good gofer.

I watch them all. The producers focus more on drama than builds. I don't watch the show to see them skydive or drive gokarts. I wish Dwayne and Bluebear would have gone at it, maybe they would have killed each other. Dwayne is an asshole and bluebear is a candyassed dufus. If he had the slightest hint of a set of balls, the fight would have been on.I wouldn't have either one of them around for 5 minutes. I like Roy and the other older guy with the big moustache.
And a challange to race a Corvette crate motor against a flatty cross country? Get real. I'm no chevy fanatic but it wouldn't be hard to see where to put the money on that one.

    Folks-
Okay, I just watched this episode (partway w/ my dad, he left the room when he saw the T that was to be disassembled) and have newfound respect for that Bluebear fella. Everyone else but him could take a flying leap for all I care. That Roy guy made the comment that the Model T is ugly! Funny coming from a guy looking like he does. The Shop Super is a hothead, and I kinda wish he hit Bluebear so Bluebear could file for assault. Lotsa money! Boyd is a moron, there were model T bodies at that guy's "dealership", he coulda taken those and saved himself the trouble. However, he seemed like he had a good sense of humor, and he was a pretty good moderator between the manager and Blue, plus, he funded Blue's project.
    It was entertaining.

I guarantee if he would've pushed my engine off like that he would've been pickin' his teeth up like a spilled box of Chicklets.

On the other hand, I about laughed my ass of when Boyd walked up and seen the T put back together & the note on the side that said :

    "assemble the car"
    "disassemble the car"
    "assemble the car"
    "disassemble the car"
    "assemble the car"
    "disassemble the car"
    "assemble the car"
    "disassemble the car"
    "assemble the car"
    "disassemble the car"
    "assemble the car"
    "disassemble the car"

And when he asked "who put this car together ?" & BB said "uh...Henry Ford".

    LMAO.

It's also cool that he sticks up for traditional stuff.

Duane is a whiner, baby & an asshole.

Also, Boyd really is kind of cool for being so serious about the project & helping BB, paying for his car & parts.

On the other hand he needs to grow up and show some appreciation for what Boyd's doing for him, any one of thousands of guys would love to trade places with him.

Boyd better watch out, his ol lady really digs BB. Speaking of that, there was more than one set of headlights at that swap meet. She could cut glass !

    First episode score:

    Bluebear =1
    Dwayne (the whiner) = 0

That was some funny shit with the note on the side of the T!

I only caught the last 15 minutes or so.

Wanted to see the whole thing...cuz I actually dig that T that Boyd built (after seeing the Rod & Custom feature). I liked the Aluma Tub alot, too...

I dunno...I think Boyd is starting to build some cool shit after all these years...he had a few odd hits in the past, like the Center Door T and that smooth red 33 from the 80s...but it seems he's actually comming up with some neat stuff now!

One thing, though...his new T coupe NEEDS TO BE PAINTED!

Pick a color, Boyd....and FINISH that thing! [IMG]

  30. I watched a it off n on ,It seems to me that Boyd is an arrogant paper pusher taking credit for his crews work, but maybe thats how he/they want him portrayed, sure his ideas , but no hands on, I got tired of all the whining and bickering and only looked up when they actually showed progress on the cpe,may as well have turned the sound off.I watched more of OCC later on.At least that ol'fart is my kinda guy.
