Any one know of an American made dropped axle, that can be ordered chromed ? Almost got one from socal, but I have a problem with foreign stuff in such a prominent location...
Check in the HAMD O'dex. several guys there doing them. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12&daysprune=100&order=asc&sort=title
The real deal (Ford Rouge river iron) still available and never equaled for slightly more effort. click this VVVVVV
In stock drilled and not drilled CE forged chromed and very nice. pm for prices.(Follow up to post about CE not selling chromed axles. We buy the raw axles and have a small very picky chrome shop do ours) Probably the best buy if forged is not important is Super Bell from P&Js.
Superbell is a cast axle , and i assume he was looking for a forged.. do we know for a fact that the new So-Cal forged axle is made offshore? does anyone know where Chassis Engineering get there axles forged?
A couple of years ago, Chassie Engineering told me they don't sell their forged axle cromed because too many came back from their plater with imperfections.
I don't know about the new So-Cal axle. I was very interested in it, asked JimA about it and he dodged the question. I got a genuine Ford axle from 296V8. Done. Fast. Happy. You will be too.
So-Cal should advise customers where their axle is manufactured. I've used Ford axles on most of my projects and the CE axle if I needed a narrower front end. My '32 Coupe was hit back in '99 the left front spindle was pushed back 7" the CE axle bent but didn't break. Also all the front suspension parts made by The DEUCE Factory bent but didn't break. It makes sense to always buy the best components possible because your life may depend on them. The FOGGER
It is the law that parts, toys, furniture, and anything else NOT made in the USA be marked with the country of origin when received by the end consumer.
That is the legality, but in real life this isn't always the case. speedway acknowledges that their new "9-super-7" carb is made off shore but does it does not state the country of origin on the product nor will speedway tell you over the phone.
See? Thats what I'm talking about. If your ashamed of where it comes from, come out and admit it. I was very interested in it a few months ago, with the better turn radius and all, and So-Cal has a good reputation, but you all didn't get the sale.
I am ashamed of nothing (in fact very proud of all the SO-CAL products), but I am a very small franchise shop who cannot speak for an entire parent company on a very large message board (Yes, SO-CAL does have a great reputation and it's not my place to mess with that in any way). Also I am not supposed to talk about SO-CAL products (or ANY products) on the main board as I recieve "SPAM Infractions" from the magagement (but since I was called out I responded). So if someone has questions they need to talk to me direct- not running anybody around or keeping secrets- just when I don't have total control of the situation best we talk one on one. If that doesn't make sense I'm sorry. I'm open and willing to talk to all who have questions. Thanks Jim
That sounds really narrow minded of whoever made this decision. All over this board there are threads that flame on about where products are made, quality etc. Now here is a guy who can actually answer a question on a part, but he isn't "allowed" to answer it. Would the same mentality keep Speedy Bill from telling where his new carbs are made? Seems a little silly to me.
In my shop I sell chrome plated and plain CE, Super Bell, and SO-Cal axles. I have CE under both my deuce roadsters with original spindles (decreased turning radius without bending arms) I have the new SO-Cal under my deuce pu with original spindles. My straight axle display chassis has a Super Bell front. The chassis for my deuce 3 window and my new deuce delivery have the polished SS axle and spindles sold by SO-Cal. All are quality products.
Understood, Jim. Thats cool. Sucks having your hands tied, but its not your fault. We're good. I'll certainly call you when I need something for the A sedan (and get some cash). John
Thanks for getting it. I try and be brief and just tell people to call me, but that gets mistaken for secretive. Even if it's just advice and information I'm always available. Thanks Jim
Understand the Socal one says on the box "Taiwan", looks like rouge river steel is the best choice for me, but going to Rhinebeck (swap meet), next weekend first. Thanks for all your replies.
SOLUTION: If JimA can't tell us where they're made here because of HAMB board rules, then someone call him up, get the country of manufacture from him and then post the information here. I remember a similar question about Vega steering box manufacture locations a long time ago.
Magnum Axle Co. I've seen them advertised as available chromed (Hot Rod Co.?). I have a Magnum under my 34 for years,,nice axle. Not sure if it's still made domestically?
Are there any complaints about the Socal axles failing ?? or that they are unsafe ?? I mean I kinda don't see the point of this attack what about the nuts and bolts you sue to put your car together are they all checked for country of origin?
No confirmation on the SoCal but the rumor was it was offshore. CE has their axles forged by John Deere in Iowa.
Why moan about their rules, Jim? You've been on the board at least 8 years, you know how it works and have seen it evolve. Become an Alliance member or better yet, an Alliance vendor.
