I think the pickers see some of these cars as they pick and know what they are looking at. So, they bid and buy all of the stuff they always buy and what they are interested in....then a phone call is made after the show to others they know who want cars ....then American pickers then get a finders fee...

it is most definitely a Plymouth - the front end showed up again later in the episode as they panned the barn - the excellent color photo provided by F&J confirmed it for me, although I was pretty sure prior to this morning. Hood extending back to the windshield, the sidepanel (hood) molding line is too high for any Ford, the second shot inside the barn showed a better view of the bottom of the grille and it matches the Plymouth perfectly. Nice car, and I agree that the old duffer just wouldn't have parted with any complete vehicles.

  7. Although those guys come off as ***holes it ain't no joke. I am just like them and end up with stuff to resell every week.Last attic I cleaned out at the owners request has netted me just over a grand so far. The owner couldn't care less as he had stored the stuff for over 30 years and seriously wanted the **** gone. The only thing I don't do is go around bugging people....they contact me.

There is a thread on them over on the AACA website, someone said they had a spot at Hershey a few years ago, high buck stuff that they sold early and left early. This was before the show first aired if I remember correctly.

  10. Man nothin' gets by you guys:D. How the hell did you get that image from TV to HAMB:confused:. I would forget buying anything from that guy, his prices were insane. Ever notice how much of the stuff they buy is still sitting around the shop a few weeks or months later? Kinda cool program though:) and DANIELLE !!!!!!!!!

I watch American Pickers to see Danielle. Once in a while a cool bike or car shows up. I just hope TV producers don't turn it into OCC or other reality ilk.

  13. me too. It was just on the screen for a split second. Those dudes have lost their ***es trying to flip cars so they just stick to the small stuff that they can fit in the van. They'll pay $200 for some ratty old harley davidson hats but they won't go near the cars.

I think there show is cool, and look forward to watching it. The show is not called lets scan America for hot rods. They deal in what they know and I am sure make a ****load of money at it. The thing I appreciate about them is they really don't take advantage of people. They pay a fair used garage sale type price for things and know how to market them well. We all would do it if we could. It is no different then showing up at your favorite swap meet early getting the score and selling it at your stall.

Well my understanding is they have been doing this for over 10 years. So the big question is. How many of the critics on here have been buying and reselling for a living that long? Also how many of those same people have a TV show of their own. Face it this is a show and we all should understand that some things are done just for the show. They are not going to show everything they buy and for how much that would be self defeating.

Doesn't anybody read the entire thread before they post? :D ... F&J got it right yesterday! ...

There actually was an "American Pickers Deuce" in a previous episode en***led "Getting The Boot" ...

    ... a Roadster: American Pickers - Junior's (Brookville) Deuce Roadster.jpg ... and a Tudor: American Pickers - Junior's Deuce Tudor.jpg

That episode of "AP" was discussed in my Deuce Roadster sighting in 'Middle of Nowhere' Kansas thread.

I've been buying and selling for over 30 years to fund my automotive and transportation related habit. No I don't make a living at it,I have what you call a Job;A small business to be exact. No ,I don't have a TV show either, don't want one.I told these clowns last year to load up some semi trucks, gather up some crew, leave the cameras at home,BRING SUITCASES full of money and come on down, all the **** they go nuts for is right here, and it's ALL for sale. They would think a 'Duce was a Douce and then they would take one.I have a 32 Ford truck and Had some Duce parts too for sale, not to those numbnuts though.Back to the Thread .....When I spotted the car in question,I was surfing past that channel and stopped,I saw that It wasn't a 32 Ford and went on surfing something to watch,I think a I stopped at the Westerns Channel.

    Dr. Frankensickle -

Is that a chip of wood on your shoulder? :D

You actually had some parts of Benito Mussolini (i.e., "il Duce") for sale? ... Interesting ... but I don't think the "American Pickers" even deal in that type of WWII memorabilia ... though I'm sure one of the other History Channel TV shows would be interested in them! ;) :D

I love the haters of Pickers.........
you guys are either jealous or have no clue how stuff gets to collectors.

When you go to swap meets - do you think that ALL those guys are local?
No - I see a lot of the same guys at all the shows I do - they do it every single weekend just like me - it is not just a hobby - it is their career.

I have been buying collections of stuff since I was 13 (comic books and baseball cards at that time) but I have always been turning stuff......

selling collectibles the entire time to get through college

    I guess I am a worm huh?

    whatever.......

and I guess I am a REALLY big worm since I purchased my first '35 from Mike Wolfe and turned it making some money on top of what they sold to me for.....
man - what a jerk I am - making money in a capitalist system that we live in.

    People are too funny.......

and trust me - before they had the TV show they were just like me barely paying the mortgage - but they hustled just as much as me - working 14 hour days and non stop on the road........

so the people that dont like them - is it because they are having fun and enjoy what they are doing? Is that why you dont like them?

    Just curious

And just so ya'll know - Mike produced the pilot of the TV show himself. People here on the east side of Iowa would roll their eyes when talking about the pilot he was shopping around for years.............
    and then -

it gets picked up after being turned down by many different cable channels - overnight celebrity

and then - people on the HAMB start talking ..........

yes - Wolfe was in the process of getting a '32 when I talked to him at the Davenport Bike swap over labor day weekend - dont know if he got it yet or not - I know it was gonna cost him some cake though.

Supposedly they are gonna open up some shop down in Nashville area as well - guess that is where the $$$ is these days for the products they sell.

I wish them all the luck and hope the show lasts 25 years.

I just wish I had time to watch the show...............

That is not a Chevy Cabriolet. If it was the side hood would have chrome "doors" instead of louvers. Maybe it's MOPAR

wow...a thread about identifying an old car in a barn has turned into an acrimonious *****slapping contest.

Frankensickle...nobody doubts your prowess as a collector....just keep in mind that no matter HOW wonderful you are, there are other folks that are quite adept at what they do, and are not interested in branching out into investing in collectibles that they are not familiar with. If you actually did challenge these two guys to head down to your place, it's apparent from your at***ude in this thread that they realized how difficult it would be to do business with such a pontificating expert.
