I like looking through old junk as much as the next guy. I love dumps, old garages, and salvage yards. I caught the show last night and it looked a little faked.

I was waiting to see if anybody would post anything about that show. It's a little like Pawn Stars. Then they show you how much money they made after they bought it so cheap from an old guy who didn't know what he had.
    This'll be the BJ of old,cool,vintage stuff.Prices going up,up,up.
On the other hand, all my worthless shit is now worth $$$$$,cause I saw it on Pickers

I thought the show was interesting, better than most of the dribble on the rest of the TV stations.

  5. It will never last! There is no pop and son arguing, no funny guy, where is the controversy that Hollywood has fed us without fail!?
It will be interesting to see the "value" of items and if it will have the "Barrett-Jackson" price inflation.............

I sure with that old shit would become "uncool" and just old again. My hobby is getting too expensive.

  7. It was pretty interesting. Like others said if the show lasts everyone will think everything they own wiil be worth thousands of dollars.

I had the same thoughts about this. I figure now all these guys that hoard junk will have proof they are getting ripped off.
These are the people that find the stuff you see hanging in bars and nostalgic type places.
Theres a place here like that called quaker steak and lube. Its full of antiques, tools, gas pumps. Theres a car on a lift and some motorcycles.
    Atleast its not being scrapped!

I'm afraid to watch after pulling about five 30 yd roll-offs of junk from my mom's house after she passed. I probably threw out enough stuff to pay for a hemi coupe.

I wish they had two cool guys on that show, rather than city idiots who wander into honest hardworking people's property and want to buy all of their stuff because it's all "kitsch" and would look "so cute/cool" in some condo. Did anyone catch when that guy was talking about the Vespa they found and how he wanted to sell it to someone because "you take something rusty and beat up and put it in the exact opposite environment and it becomes SOO COOL" or something like that.

Blah. Puke. We have enough of that out here on Long Island with "weekend warriors" showing up at barn/yard sales in their "weekend jeans" and loafers wanting to buy shit they know nothing about, so they could sell it out in the Hamptons for 6x what they bought it for.

    No thanks.

What a refreshing change...to watch a show that had a subject I would be interested in, and no drama or bullshit.

2 guys running around the countryside looking for cool old stuff to buy and resell...whatta dream job...

I give the first show a 2 thumbs up.

I thought it was pretty good, but a little painful to watch. Maybe my past experience's in life have left me a little bitter, but seeing those guys take advantage of some of those people to that degree really pissed me off. That one old guy was barely conscious, they gave him $75.00 for a saddle that was worth, I think they said over $5,000! I'll bet the old guys kids were fuckin' steamin' when they saw that show.

  15. I loved it. I will admit that i felt a little sorry for ol' Leland, although he did set the prices and they didn't even try to talk him down.

I love the idea, but it's going to inflate all market's of vintage/antique collectables which is great if you have a few barns of stuff you've been sitting on.

Any I thought ebay killed all the good deals...

I loved it too. You can look at it both ways. Getting stuff cheap or saving stuff that would probably sit and rot if they didn't get it.
Be careful what you wish for though. It seems like fun to just run around and dig through old stuff but when you think about paying the overhead and making a living out of it, it might not be so much fun. Take your fun weekend hobby and make it into a job.

A local fellow with a yard full of HAMB-friendly stuff is to be on a future episode.
It'll be interesting to see how the show changes the way he thinks,we think and the prices escalate and values change overall....

Yeah, the show does need an angry blowhard father that says "basically" a lot,a well-meaning but, lazy doofus son and another son that "deserves more credit."
Mayhem ensues, they all make a bazillion dollars and a weekly "theme" is established?

I liked it. It was interesting to hear what angles they used to talk people out of stuff.
And how they smoozed the owners into coming back for future visits.
Most of that stuff will end up being sold for scrap metal by those old farmers yuppie grandkids. I Dealt with antiques for 20 years. Regardless how it may look on the cover. Those guys are lucky to make 30-50 grand a year on a full time scale.

As I recall on the show, the Buyers never offered a price, but asked the Seller what he wanted for a particular item. So, tell me, how's that "ripping him off" as mentioned earlier????

Does anyone seriously go to a swap meet, garage sale, antique shop, etc and tell the Seller he should charge you more?

It's one thing to have the stuff they want to buy and then make a few bucks from it on your own.... but the buyers on the show have the connections to sell the stuff...eventually.

Would old Leland be out there advertising the stuff he has, or even how much to ask for it... would he even want to deal with all the A$$holes willing to bust the old guys balls or heaven forbid steal from him when he's not looking. I think these two guys doing the buying are professional and even polite while using their experience when it comes to buying stuff and taking the chance that they can then sell it. How much of the stuff they buy take years to sell, if ever...

We've all seen "junk" shops with the same stuff year after year, they bought the stuff from someone and there it sits!

Hey! ...it's better to let them do all the leg work and dickering... that in itself has to be worth something!

I saw it....Seemed fake to me,Maybe when they get run off at gunpoint,Dog bit,and nearly amputated by old rusty metal sheets and buried in a avalanche of stuff it might seem a bit more like a few of my adventures.Until the Im gonna say FAKE B.S.

I enjoyed it but I personally think that the camera and film crew played a big part in their getting into the treasure troves and purchasing the items. The one guy never would sell anything until the cameras showed up and then he started to sell stuff.

You would probably have a change of heart if you thought you could be on TV.

I enjoyed it because I just love looking at all the old stuff.

I know of a couple of places here local, that over the past ten years, the old hoarder/collector guys wouldn't sell, (do you know what that's worth sonny) and when they died the kids and the county had everything scraped.

One thing that i didn't like, or thought was odd, was that the guy that wouldnt sell anything, finally relented and when he said he would sell they risked offending him with a counter offer... when a guy like that is in a selling mood give him what he wants.

The guys live about 2 miles from, I can tell you they are by no means CITY SLICKERS. The town they live in is total farm country. Both of the guys are pretty stand up guys, they have been doing antique/ picking for years. They have some cool old car parts that you don't see on t.v. also. Buzz
