I call bullshit on the "profit" margin. They claim to resell to antique dealers and being a former dealer I feel qualified to point out that we don't pay top dollar to a "picker" (stupid name). Leland is a national hero who should have been given MORE than he asked for an item. When Mike tried to talk Bear out of his belt buckle, Mike should have had his ass kicked by the cameraman. I love the idea behind the show but wish they would have found someone else to be the pickers. How about a show where a guy runs a traditional hotrod website by day and stamps out membership tags by night?

These old guys sold their stuff for what they considered fair. Nobody was holding a gun to their heads. I'd rather see the stuff go this way than to "family".
The pickers are middlemen. They have to buy for well less than market. They then sell to a dealer who then sells to the public. They've got vehicles, maintenance, a storage facilitiy and a secretary. I'm surprised they can make a living at picking.

Usually when i knock on a door I get a no or hell no. I would love to just look and listen to the stories. I would be the same way some of the guys where. I wouldn't want to part with my treasures either.

Those who feel the old-timers were "ripped off" should weigh the alternatives before passing judgment. Most of that stuff is junk and occasionally a treasure is found and the pickers (and pawn shops) work hard for their profits. If the old guys' kids wanted it, they'd have dibs on it by now. When the old guys die, their families will either scrap the stuff or hire an auctioneer and then they'll really get ripped off. Don't get me wrong, auctioneers work for a living too, but besides the handsome percentage of whatever sells they usually buy out the remaining lot at pennies on the dollar.

As long as they are not pressuring the seller to take a low price it's all fair.

SO my suggestion for the next episode is to have the American Pickers appear on the Hoarders show and then take anything they buy onto Pawn Stars show.

2 obnoxious A-holes screwing a WWII vet out of his stuff because he doesnt know any better or maybe hes not as on the ball as he was years ago when he was fighting a war so years later these 2 hose jobs can "buy" his stuff and then turn to the camera and give a "I just screwed this WWII vet and he doesnt even know it!" high-5 expression...

I know it happens all the time and we are all guilty of it I am sure at one time or another but I just dont like these guys and I see enough low balling resale a-holes at car shows and swapmeets..I wont be tuning in to see a couple more...

  8. I thought it was an interesting show but what would be really cool is for those guys to go back to Leylands house after they sell that saddle and lay a grand on him just because...

WOW Some of you guys need to get laid! I started this thread cause I thought it was a good show? I have sold stuff to later find out I got ripped off, and I have bought stuff that I know I got a hell of a deal on. I dont dislike these 2 cats for anything they've done or doing. They treat the old guys with maximum respect and offer them good money. Do you really think those old guys are going to spend their days on e-gay to see what the stuffs worth? Most of the shit their getting money for they probly forgot they even had? I would love to do what their doing and I still think I would be able to sleep at night. Just my 2 cents, thanks for listening

I agree with everyone else about leaving the profit portion out of the show. I think everyone is smart enough to realize that they are going to resell the items for a profit, so I don't think there is a need to show that.

It sure would be a change of pace to see something on TV that is done for the fun of it and not the profit involved.

Come on guys, this stuff is all scripted, they have already talked to these people before they film it, get real. It is the same on pawn stars, they have already talked before they film it---so no surprises.--TV

Tell them to get a couple of semi truck and trailers too,Ill make em a package deal,I can take a few days off work anytime they wanna show, just bring CASH.Everything offered to them will still allow them a good profit. But they aren't gonna pick this and pick that......I will sell them everything I offer at good deal for a package price. Its an ALL OR NOTHING DEAL...They gotta show me the Cash first, then I will show em my stuff. It would blow their minds.

Poor Leland... That sucks! I loved the show until they started ripping him off of what are surely considered family heirlooms. I think I'm going to call in a "tip" to the shows producers that i know an old guy in Texas with a barn full of antique automobilia and give those fags a good texas ass-whoopin when they try some ridiculous shit like that. Couple of manipulative fags! I hope Lelands kids kick their ass!!!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who got pissed after seeing the show. Watched it last night, and I was just burning about it all day. Show sounded cool, great idea, but when those two a-holes had to brag after they took advantage of the elderly, that didn't need to be in the show.

Me and a co-worker discussed this show, and liked the treasure hunt part, not so much the buying for cheap part. There, should just be a show sharing what they find, to the viewers, kinda like a rural version of the Keno Brothers show.

As an aside, my grandfather's WWII samurai sword was stolen back in the 1960's, and to this last year of his life, he was still pissed about it.

That REALLY pissed me off, good thing the samurai sword was only worth double what they paid the WWII Vet who had it since 1945.

I was kind of on the fence about this show. I read through the comments here, started watching a few of the videos on youtube and this one turned me off on this show totally. Check out his reaction when he is pulling away from the guys property and then watch the elderly man walk out of his barn. This is sad to see, I wish these people knew what their stuff was worth and could cash in on it instead of the money hungry asshole snatching it up. Afterall, these people built the country we have today, they deserve to be treated better than this. Basically showing the country how he just got played. I could go on all night.............

They are "professionals" but don't own one packing blanket to protect the items they buy, just throw it in the Mercedes and they are off to the next old timers place.
