Anybody know the story behind the T70R torque thrust wheel? Possibly made in the early 70's, for just a year or so. The spokes were cast with a flange around the spokes for strength? Thanks for any info.

word i heard from one of my wheel guru friends , was that the first style t70 was a little weak and would crack at the spokes... the rib or flange was added ...and the name changed to the t70r.... the first style was alot cleaner ...but being they only offered them in i think 4 sizes ( 14x7 & 8 , 15x7 & 8) , they have to be narrowed to make anything narrower than 7 ...... brandon :D

  3. I really prefer the R's - I like the definition of the spokes that the ribs supply. I'm sure that Chip was honoring these when he designed his Foose Nitrous 5 spokes.

This may have been a reaction to a problem which arose in the SCCA Trans-Am series in1969. American 5 spoke magnesium wheels developed serious stress cracks, which made all the factory teams go to the English Minilite wheel. That solved the problem. (15X8 wheel on Road Courses)

Thanks for the info. I guess they are fairly rare. OOps, and O/T since they were made in '69-'71.

Had Eric Vaughn narrow a pair of T70 15 x 7s for me - he swears they spat at him like a rabid wildcat and are as porous as hell. He swore he would never do any more T70s or T70Rs. Mine are absolutely beautiful but have a slow leak in one of the fronts - probably from the porosity. I'm gonna put rim sealant on the inside when I pull the tires.

IMHO the 15 x 7 T70 - not the R version - is one of the most beautiful wheels ever produced. I have a set which has a very unusual 'double bead' on the rim - looks almost grooved. Anyone else seen or got any like this?

It is being released to celebrate the 40 years since it's first release.

Do you guys think Eric V. can narrow the current versions to 15x4 or 5?
