Great Idea Ryan,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

It seems to me that when traditional style cars got popular, were invited to these larger shows. A first I thought it was kool to be invited and to have our own rooms. But as I went to more and more shows I realized that they just wanted to get more people to come to there show. It looked like there were more people looking at traditional style cars that the hi-tech cars. And now, the high dollar cars have a more traditional look to them.

Your idea sounds great! Maybe it can be called the HAMB Best Roadster of the year award? One could
Add the best of show winners from Bulletproof and Primer Nationals and what is at GNRS and announce the HAMB winner there. This is just an idea. I like it. Donn

"On Sunday, the award will be presented shortly before we run like hell for the border."
Mavericks I tell ya…

That is hilarious!!!

I Love the idea, everyone gets to have a part...and if it were me, I'd rather have a H.A.M.B. award anyday:p

Do it Boss!!!!

Exactly.
Why TJJ is mentioned everytime someone brings up a rat rod is beyond me.

That said...Ryan's idea made it out into the ether beyond the HAMB. This should be interesting to watch.

9. by comparison
its picking MISS AMERICA...
because of the same criteria as before but adding how well she looks the next morning after we all bang her all night and then judging her on the breakfast she makes...?

please make a award for the best "roadster" (if it must be)that follows "our" guidelines in traditional ways... some will say "thats hard to do without specific year cutoffs or certain mfr's used components point removal systems..

Pebble Beach uses cutoffs like these and the Stroker McGurk award is simular in nature..

a TJJ or HAMB pick should just be a certificate mailed out and the run as a STICKY post here that would be added as a running commentary of winners accessable like the calendar or Hamb o dex

SORRY BUT WHEN YOU WANT TO RUN WITH THOSE DOGS YOUR GONNA LOOK AT ASSHOLES LOTSA TIMES AND LISTEN TO BITCHES

10. Umm.......Jalopnik has mentioned the HAMB before, they read us, Ryan reads them.

Yeah I know. Maybe I need to clarify.

My comment had more to do with the reader comments found below the Jalopnik article.

15. Great idea, you should even put the winner's face on the trophy, like the Borg-Warner at Indy... :)

The HAMBR (Hamb Appointed Most Beautiful Roadster)?

No offense, but this award would be only slightly less predictable (albeit more meaningful to trad. rodders) than the AMBR.

Any chance of getting a post with pictures of the cars that won each award (are all of these GNRS awards?)?

Yeah, I thought the earlier "just call it the black roadster with skinny wheels award" comment was pretty funny. Cause that's what I would pick most of the time. ;) :D

19. Inspired idea Ryan, I'm all for it - just send my plane ticket in good time and I'll be sure to be on time to judge!:D JK, I'd be happy to partake in an online vote from a previously narrowed field.

I also like the idea of an anonymous award - the mystique would grow each year and the appreciation with it although I also agree with and really like Sam's comments below, partly because I'm not an American and have always felt a little left out :(:

Oh, and I love this - the smuggling in and assembly is a killer idea and the swingin' dick, inch higher overcompensation reinforces the whole indoor car show ideal - as long as it's tastefully done.

After thinking about it more, and seeing some of the other trophies handed out, I agree that it should be for roadsters only.

Excellent idea! Maybe we could just crush the AMBR-winning car into a cube and use THAT for the trophy!:D

While I haven't been a ISCA judge for years I'll put in a few thoughts based on past experiance. To be fair to the judges you shouldn't blame them for the picks. To be a good judge you have to take personal taste out of the picture. Many times I picked a car I didn't like, some I even personally thought was ugly but it was well built with difficult modifications. The judges sheet doesn't care what it looks like, just how many points it earned. I dought that the judges are dilibertly picking only champane colored big wheel cars. I think it's a monkey see, monkey do thing. If you're investing half a mil to try and win, safe bet to follow last years winner, till someone has the balls to invest that much in something different and start a new trend.
Several years ago I sponsered an award at our local indoor show for the same reason we are discussing here. I designed and built the trophy and I was the sole judge. The criteria was it had to be a tradtional hot rod or custom and owner built. I had several of the winners come to me after the show with graditude (sometimes tears) because someone thought their car deserved recognition even if it wasn't a billit trailer queen. Ryan is right on with this.
I don't know the producer of the GNRS, I haven't been there since Don had it but I imagine they would be OK with such a award from HAMB. Oviously it would not compete with AMBR, it would just mean someone else walks away with a prestigous award, everyone wins. I know our local producers welcomed indulging me with my choice of the best of show.

27. Great idea indeed.

The second thing I'd do is maybe have the award larger in size, and of better quality. So it blows everyone away as to why "someone/some group" got so serious about it and went to so much expense to dwarf the AMBR trophy. I bet there would be enough donations here to pay for it.

You'd probably have to give it to them off the grounds to avoid any legal issues.

Also, to have it be meaningful you might have to watch about them saying it was given by a bunch of rat rodders....that's what they'll surely say to downplay it. Not that I consider this place to be that. Another thing is it might be best to have it be a separate or different kind of award. You wouldn't want to alienate a good ambr winner/pick, if it should happen. Besides, they'll probably know about this whole thing sometime tomorrow anyway...

This is swirling into such a great idea!..50,000 enthusiasts have an opinion right!?...online voting, HAMBR trophy, count me in for anything I can do to help..a biege paintjob, Wal-Mart blingy wheels(I know they're REAL expensive),rubber band tires, lots of billet..what were they thinking?

30. I`d like to see the first 5 AMBR pics Photoshopped beside the last 5 AMBR pics. Would be an interesting comparison to where we were and where it`s been going.
