There are a lot of Amish around here. Don't let them fool you, they have cell phones (no wire to attach you to the outside world you see), some own trucks (but have and English drive them around), they don't buy power off the line but you might notice the big Cat Diesel Power sign on the side of the shed. Rahmspringer (sp?) is when the get to go sow their wild oats and get hooked on meth. Don't let that "Amish Craftsmanship" fool you. They peel the "made in China" stickers off some of that furniture and sell it in their craft stores down there too.... That said, I had an Amish guy come and put the gutters on my house....in his new Ford diesel truck.
Never got all that ''Pennsylvania-Dutch'' stuf... Amish were originally from Switzerland. Pennsylvania-Dutch is actually Pensylvania-Deitsch (A German dialect still spoken in some parts of Germany and Switzerland). But on the other hand, Most Hollywood movies show German people and have German-spoken conversations when a scene is supposed to be in Holland .
This thread isn't traditional enough. I kid! The rules the Amish follow vary widely. I've heard that some accept laser levels. Others oppose pneumatic tires.
In the 2nd pic it looks like the Buick seat skins are Birch, cool effect! White bonnet means single girl , so the ones in the "low boy roadster" probably are courti'n, at least by old order rules.
The Amish around here are very respectable people. Now,they may be Mennonites,Amananites or ?(probably not),but these folks like to cruise a really *****in' Morgan horse past the Dairy Queen Saturday night on their way to a ****ermilk kegger or wet bonnet contest somewheres? Wild folk....
I wonder if there is a special Amish prison that they go to for violating federal law by running red dyed Diesel on public highways? Every time I pull up next to that red pump I'm tempted, but I figure it isn't worth the trouble that I might get into.
CoolBreeze talked about the Amish in Northern Indiana, I use to go through there about every week and the one thing I thought was interesting on most of the Amish farms ... the state of the art plexigl*** backboards on their basketball courts !!!
