Does anyone know what wires (not color, but where they connect to) are connected to ammeter. I have 1955 second series chevy 3200. It does not have a generator but an alternator, and it does not have a voltage regulator. I can't seem to get an answer on what should be attached to the pegs besides the one wire that goes to the battery, and also a wire that goes to horn. When I got the truck, they had 2 other wires attached to the ammeter, one that went to the accessory post on Ignition switch and another wire that went to headlight switch. Any thoughts?
this is how i wire an ammeter: the output of the charging system goes to the + side of the ammeter. the - side of the ammeter goes to the + side of the battery. then all power for the electrical system come from a wire attached to the + side of the ammeter. there should be no other wires wired this way the ammeter shows current going into and out of the battery , not what the charging system is putting out.
Could I ask you advice on mine then.... My charging system is a one wire alternator so only has the wire from battery to alternator which is actually running to the starter (+ battery to starter, then 2 wires come off starter, one to alternator, other to ammeter), that is it. So....if I have a wire from battery it would go to the - side of the ammeter (D side I ***ume). The electronic are all run through the ignition switch, just an on/off type switch with floor starter. So would I have a wire going from the + side of ammeter (C) to the ignition switch? If so, would it go to the battery terminal (hot) or to the accessory terminal (only hot when key turned to on). Would there be any need to have a wire going from + ammeter (C) to the light switch ***embly? Thank you!
