    I was 18 or so when the aftermarket ammeter went **** in my 56 F100. That was the last time I had an aftermarket ammeter. I run a voltmeter.

    I recall them in some of the old trucks I had. I really don't know a lot about them so I go with volt meters, really easy to understand, I see the charging rate real-time. 2 years ago I had a problem with my voltage regulator, first noticed my dash lights flaring, then saw the volt meter spiking up to 17v, down to 12v, so it was a good diagnostic aid for me.
