In the first one everyone knows you have to use hardwood. Pine or fir is too soft for serious suspension work.
The second one at least will save the ends of the U bolts. once they drag a few times the nuts won't come off and you have to cut them and buy new ones if you don't have a welder to tack a new threaded piece on. I put the U bolts on upside down to protect the threads. You have to retighten them occasionally because the rounded end will tend to straighten out over time.

That would be a lift kit, not a lowering kit. To be a lowering kit, the axle would have to be above the spring. Unless the car was on its roof and you are looking at it from the bottom....

I never would have thought about skid plates, do those void the scrub line rules? Asking for a friend, maybe he will get a different answer then the one in my head.

Actually, I'm guessing the guy was probably bending the bottom plate trying to keep the U bolts tight, the tubing is to keep the plate from bending, or maybe not...

There was a thread not long ago about scrub line where one guy had the idea of castor wheels (or similar) under the low parts so the car would roll along instead of skidding along in the event of a flat tire.
Worst part about it............... HE WAS SERIOUS!!!!!:eek::eek:

I looked at a car for sale once with Craftsman universal sockets welded to concrete reinforcement bar shaft. “Um no thanks”

"That bar thingy used to be hooked up over there. It came loose and was banging around, but I finally got it fixed so it don't bang no more. I fixed it all by myself."

I saw a lot of these owner repairs come in at my welding shop. A surprising number of those owners didn't want to pay to have them fixed correctly. I should have taken pictures of some of them.

IMG_1999.jpeg Looks like a hardware store puked, Amazing, probably more $$$s in junk than the cost to fix correctly. Simply amazing - speechless!!!! I’m thinking people watch the Red Green show as a how to program.

Fifty something years ago, my favorite weldor had a sign on the wall.
"Minimum charge $8.00. If it ain't worth $8.00, throw it away!!!"

They actually sell a crescent wrench now with both standard & metric markings. I guess for those who really need to know.

A 110 volt harbor freight mig , no doubt. I admire how they beat the joints together so it would match perfectly too!
