I was part a group of about 9 people that were all going on a trip to a resort. We split into 2 cars, one pair of couples drove one of those little mid 80s "economy" cars because it was going to get such great gas mileage, The other 4 rode with me, I borrowed my Dad's couch seated "gas hog" mid 70s Mercury. The round trip was going to be nearly 1400 miles.
I followed the "economy" car because he knew the way to the resort, he had been there before. That 1st gas stop, about 200 miles down the road, told the entire story. The 4 people in the economy car groaned and rubbed their back sides when they got out of the car. everyone with me were fine, no one was hurting at all. At the pump, the "gas hog" cost exactly $2 more for the gas then the "economy" car's gas cost, but it was split 5 ways instead of the 4 way in the smaller car. By the end of the week, there wasn't anyone in the gas hog that wasn't happy to be riding in it.

It was really hard to beat those couch seats in those big old gas hogs on road trips.

Heck I would actually cruise it for a bit as a around town beater until the new wore off of it.
