I'm getting tired of you guys making fun of my welds. I'm going to find out where you live and sneak in and weld something on your car.

"If you can't weld good, add more weld." At least that was what one old guy told me.
Then the next guy said "Then you have more weld to grind off."
Then the last guy said "Learn to weld good."
The last guy had better advice.

I worked at a power station, so there were places around the water front that had lots of rusty pipes and metal structure. A co worked went out and gathered a large bucket of rusty, flaky metal and headed to our parking lot.
At lunch time he started to give his buddy a hard time about his old truck falling apart and rusting away out in the parking lot. When his buddy went to his truck that evening there was a huge amount of rust spread all around his truck.

    Reminds me............
Worked with a guy years ago that was always bragging about how good the gas mileage was on his old slant six Valiant, some of us got together and started adding a little gas to his tank a couple times a week at break time.
It was so successful that he started saying his mileage was so good he was going to need to start taking some gas out of his tank, this went on for a couple weeks and we finally had enough hearing about it that we had to spill the beans on him.
    Damn, I miss those days!

A buddy of mine always said, "My welds don't look too good, but they won't hold either."

Heard that one. Here's how to make it even better -- take a little gas out each day while his MPG goes to shit. (What happened to my car!)

I've got that Cold Welder Certification too. Had to have it on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. It was so cold that regular arc welding wouldn't work. How cold was it, you ask? It was so cold we were pre-heating ice cubes for our drinks.;)

Rather long , but I’ll try it . Home headquarters on pipeline crew , where we all working out of was on top of a cavern with 9 million gallons of liquid propane . We got a new guy that transferred into the crew with us . Great guy , hard worker , just nervous as a whore in church , around the liquid propane . On our exit home the expressway ran about 500 yards on the back side of the cavern . I see ahead of me , focused on driving looking straight ahead . I was driving my 48 F1 , I nail it and catch him , right be side on him I shut it down , pump hell out of the gas and as we roll past the cavern , I turn the key back on . It was the most explosive sound I have heard in years . I look over at him , mouth wide headed towards the dividing wall ! Next day he says , “ you Crazy Sumanabitch , I knew I was dead , I could feel a shock way hit my car . I just knew I was blown up !”

I am more worried about that fuel line in the back ground. Should have covered that up during the "welding". Looks like a lawn soaker hose.

The guy just didn't think it through, all it needs is one of these, it would have given him plenty of clearance.

  20. Every now and then, someone at work would brag about how fantastic their new car was. So a few days later, someone would sneak out to the parking lot with some sump oil, and pour it onto the ground under their new car, making sure that the puddle could be seen as the driver was getting in. This was in a 2 storey workshop, we were on the top floor with a view of the car park. This place had over 2500 employees, and everyone finished at the same time, so the one exit from the carpark was a mess for about half an hour, so some of us would have a coffee and do some home jobs while the car park cleared out, and at the same time would be watching the latest stooge react to the "mystery oil puddle"!

My uncle had a sigh outside his shop that said, "We can weld anything except a broken heart & the crack of dawn" He told me for the first he didn't care and for the second he didn't get up that early.

Yep, another day of problem solving and unlimited ingenuity. Yet another where the steering competes for space with the exhaust. Quite a restriction, serving two cylinders on a flathead. I took a pic of the other side hanging on the wall. There was a pair of dumps, made from flathead oil filter canister housings. DSC04122.JPG DSC04189.JPG DSC04198.JPG

It is just the part of the tradition no one here wants to admit to.

Thanks guys, for the laffs! When you do what we do you gotta have a sense of humor.
I've been a fan of Gary Larson's "Far Side" and I sometimes wonder if he might be a closet car guy.....
