I can still get down and squat like those guys!

Now, getting back up, and then being able to move afterwards may be a different story.

As you age, a dropped bolt will almost certainly fall to the floor to the exact centre of the car, within 0.010”. Can’t get it from the left side, nor the right… gotta get down there and fish it out.

    cheers,

I have one of those magnets. When I worked in the J.C. Penny Auto Center back in around 1978, they issued each mechanic with a tool box when he started. When they closed up all the Auto Centers in around 1980, they gave each mechanic the tool box he was using. The magnet I have was one of the few tools remaining from that tool box.
The magnet is taped onto the holder, and the swivel joint has electrical tape around it so it doesn't flop around, but the magnet is still strong enough to pick up a 4" long 1/2" diameter bolt, but you have to lift it delicately. That sucker extends out to 4 feet long! If what I drop is magnetic, that old wore out magnet will still retrieve the dropped item that found its way to the geographic center of the vehicle. I used it just the other day for that very reason!

Always to the very middle of the car . If I y tried to toss one under to the same place . When working as a line mechanic , I always kept a few boots and nuts in my pocket to stop from retrieving lost ones . Also the lazy Dude next to me , would be hey dude get that for me you’re young . Giving him the wrong size from my stash a few times stopped him from yelling at me to be his slave .

Gravity is no longer my friend. Now I think when I drop something is it worth retrieving or can I just go out and buy a new one cheaper?

When I had my shop we would drop a few pennies on the parking lot just in front of the office door just to see who would pick them up. It was always the cheapest sob that wanted work done or little kids. lol

One of those would have been handy the night my friend dropped the air cleaner wing nut down the carb on his patented new Olds getting ready for a street race back in the '60s.
