Maybe try a HAMB relay too, there's even a social group set up. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=214 There are a few stories here about parts arriving bent and mangled or not showing up at all when using the bus.
I wonder if they'd ship it if i just wrote the address on it with a sharpie and handed it to the postman?... ; )
Late breaking update.... I'm on my way to the UPS store this mornin... film at 11. I'll PM ya and let ya know what shipping is this afternoon/evening. : )
So we got the y-block out today. Plan is to clean it up a little, change the fluids. Hook the tranny back on, and see if we can fire it up. We will see how far we can get today but we dedicated the whole weekend to Amy's t-bucket.
Ok... So the Y-block is give us a little trouble... Thank goodness for Tim McMaster! Keep your fingers crossed that it fires up today!
Hey there!!!! I just got it haha it wonderful!!! Thanks again so very much for it!^_^ I will be sending the money out tomorrow if that's ok!?
The post office is close to laying off people. The way they feel might get shown in package treatment.
It's 15 bucks, I promise i'm not losin sleep over it. : ) a little history on it. It came with a grabbag of parts in a cutdown touring i picked up near great falls montana a few years back. Got it all real reasonable from a kid with a bitchin Caddy powered A sedan. Used what i needed and then passed the rest along to folks like you cheap as i could manage it. : ) I know of half a dozen Ts runnin around now with parts from that find. : ) WAAAYYY cooler in mymind than hoardin em. So, keep us updated... Oh, by the way, Did ya'll ever get that Yblock to fire?
Sorry I haven't updated the thread lately, but I have made progress! We were able to mock up the engine, chassis, and body up and it looks great! Now the biggest thing is if we are going to use the original chassis after all... We may still box the original frame, but seeing the engine with how small the chassis is, we may want to build a new one. IMG_1049 by Dimitri Lazaris, on Flickr IMG_1050 by Dimitri Lazaris, on Flickr
Well, if the gennie frame isn't rusted out, boxing it should be fine. But I'm not a chassis expert and I don't know what mods that engine will have. i still can't get over you found a gennie body and frame WITH the title.
Go with a new frame. You could even make one from 2x4 box steel that matches the dimensions of the T frame other than the height and width of the frame rails. T-frames just don't have the strength to handle modern power and highway driving.
That has been my suggestion for you from the beginning of this project. A simple 2 x 3 tubing frame will be so easy to build and is actually a lot easier to do in some respects than trying to save an old frame and box it. Mock up looks good, and as you mentioned, a new frame would allow you to stretch it out a little for all the clearance you would need. If I were building a 4 banger car I MIGHT consider a T frame, but not for anything beyond that. All you need to build is a simple 2 x 3 ladder type frame like this one: And if you want to use that nice model T rear crossmember, just weld it into the new frame rails: Don
I do believe your right, I do think there is much to do to save my frame.. I am going to think of ways I can hopefully "use" my chassis. But sad to say I ended up buying some nice strong steel to build a new chassis, I reall do like that design On the top, do you by chance know the dimensions? I like the Z of the frame! It looks like the one on speedway. Does everyone agree that I should do that frame style for my bucket and the Y-block? I don't want to mess up lol Oh also I bought some shinny aluminum for my firewall!!!!
