I decided to write this thread to show my gratitude for this amazing forum and the amazing people on here. I recently received a PM from someone who wants to remain anonymous, to tell me that i should give painting a shot!! First, i dont know nothing about painting and i dont have the most important thing... a quality paint gun!! Well that's a thing of the past, today i received a brand new SATAJET 2000 paint gun via FEDEX. I am speechless and extremely honored!! After the holidays im gonna enroll in a paint class and finally give painting a shot!!! It's very intimidating, but you gotta start somewhere!!! I would love in the future to be able to do it all!!! I think it's the coolest thing when somebody can build a high end custom and do it all from frame to paint.

This forum never ceased to amaze me!!! :)

I just wanted to say thank you to this amazing man, im gonna make you proud and i promise you.... i wont shoot primer with it!!!!:)

    Thank you!!!!!

Try painting solid colors first Mettallics are tougher ,Black is the easiest color to spray.Good luck ,The more you spray the better you get .

once you figure out the settings on the gun and how the air and paint adjusting needles work, it will come with practice. do you have a body shop in town? see if you can get some bent up panels for practice, sometimes the automotive paint stores will have paint that was mismatched etc, you can usually get it cheap. first things first, memorize the manual and learn how to assemble and disassemble the gun, it's very important to completely dismantle and clean after every use, if you make it a habit to make it spotless every time, the gun will remain like new for years.

That's no junk, and that book looks like a lot of reading. Read up on it all you can, I learned the hard way. Sand a couple panels down to re-do, you'll learn quick. Good luck to ya.

Far out man! Very cool gift, great gun. I have one just like it. As far as learning to paint, after you figure out the basics, it's all about practice.

Congrats Ian! The most important thing I was ever taught about painting is "It's not a fast dance - it's a waltz"! You'll see what I mean if you ever watch someone who is good.

Tis alway cool to hear of things like this. To whomever decided to help you out, you are an incredible human being. Giving someone support will help build confidence. I cannot wait to see some of your spraying results. Please post up as you can. It was already stated, but definiatly check with you local parts stores that mix paint, the ones in my town always have paints that they mixed and either did not match or did not get picked up. They usually dry them up and dispose of them, so if you ask, they just might give them to you or at least sell them to you extremely cheap. GOOD LUCK.

  30. I know exactly how you feel Ian. When I lost my camera, some HAMBers bought me a new Canon! I was blown away!!! Lots of good people on here, for sure!
Go to the swapmeet and pick up an old door and a fender or two and start practicing. All I always hear is,it's all about the prep and the mixture. Looking forward to seeing your fisrt, well maybe your second, paint job! Hey,why not paint Munsters roof, hahaha!
