the build trumps the ride, but it does help if you cruise with other rods/sleds, on a similar note, swap meets trump show and shines, less politics and more treasures I guess.
Finished? What does that mean? It's the journey, not the destination. Every time I accomplish something in the garage I sleep well at night. If I'm stumped on a job, I'll toss and turn but generally wake up with a solution. Sometimes that bolt you can't remove at 10pm on a Friday will come out real easy at noontime on a Saturday. If you're expecting a huge rush of excitement the first time it pulls out of the garage, you've been ignoring (or forgetting) all the little rushes along the way. If you think you're done with a project then it's time for a new one.
I understand this to a point..... Maybe the car doesn't live up to expectations in the "fun to drive" dept? Have to remember, these are old, primitive cars compared to todays' stuff, it's NOT going to drive the same...... I spent a weekend driving a 1958 Tatra last Sept - Hemi V-8, 4 speed on the column, sounds like an absolute hoot, right? The reality was wooden brakes, a battery that went flat making me jump start it every time it died, which it did frequently as it had no torque and I had to slip the clutch on starts, especially going up hills. The synchros were slow and required very deliberate shifting, and of course it also had 1958 suspension and the consequent handling characteristics. I still had a great time with it, but if I'd just spent 4 years restoring it only to have it drive like this, I'd have been dissapointed too. This car was a 22K mile survivor and in amazingly good and original shape, BTW.....
