Been to a lot of places, started out from 'scratch' in each... I retired from the U.S. Army about 10 years ago (Guess that makes me "older than dirt")... The pension isn't enough to even 'get by' on, so am now working as a computer/LAN/WAN weenie to make ends meet. Have been on the sidelines of what my better-half refers to as 'my hobby' for quite a while, getting back into it, after 20+ years... Am into trucks/pickups. Currently have: 1946 Hudson Pickup - Tan w/lightbrown fenders - ** This one looks a lot better in the photo than it really is - it is a 20-footer, doesn't run & has rust/bondo issues, everywhere. This one will probably be 'rodded' eek: = astonishment from the traditionalist 'HET Club' crowd...) 1946 Hudson Pickup - Light/dark blue - ** Mostly original - On its way to me from Ohio. It will probably stay unaltered, and may even have some of the non-standard/non-OEM 'bells & whistles' removed... 1939 Hudson Pickup coming from TX - A "Rust bucket" ** This truck is in need of some serious help... It is also pretty rare - You won't be able to find too many pictures of this one - believe me, I've tried! I'm still not sure what I am going to do with this one... As you can probably see, I like Hudson Pickups... Well, yes, but I also have Fords & Chevys on my list of 'wants'. I would love to have a '39 & a '53 Ford pickup (just one of each...)... - for now... Also, I sort of put the cart before the horse - Got my project trucks, and am now putting together my workshop, so I can begin to work on them...
Hey Man! I've seen your nicname before somewhere? Looking forward to what you do with the rare iron Jim brought you. I've got the '49 Coupe on the road. A bit ratty looking, put purring like a kitten. Keep them Hudson's rolling! Mark
Yep, you have - probably on more than one forum. At my age, I have a rough enough time remembering what day of the week it is, no less more than one nickname... Seem to recall seeing your 'handle' around somewhere as well. FINALLY got 'Big Blue' in... Some surprises (good & bad) there, but it runs and appears to be roadworthy. I am starting a 'hit list' of items to work on, and as soon as the paperwork catches up to it (still in progress), I'll be taking 'Blue' out for a spin every now & again, as well as some local events. The "rare iron" isn't here yet... Told Jim that I wasn't in a hurry, and to take his time getting it here. I'll probably see it sometime this month. There's another HET member about 75 miles away with a '39 PU as well, going at his 'tooth & nail'. Got to give him a call & take a trip down to see how it is going... Rick
Jim is a good man, I'm glad somebody with an appreciation for Hudsons got the truck. Its not that I'm opposed to modifying Hudsons (familiar astonishment of hardcore HETers), but I don't like to see a car of any type stripped of its original identification. I recently saw a Graham coupe that looked completely original, right down to the steel spoked wheels with original Graham hubcaps (widened just a tad). Under the hood - was a spiffy, tricked out blown hemi - vintage small hemi. I loved that car and it was definately the coolest outfit there. There was a crowd around it all day long, proving that a car doesn't have to be "shaved" and carry a $10k paintjob to turn heads. On the '39 truck, I've often wondered just how compatible Jet engines were to older, smaller 6 Hudson vehicles. Somewhere I read that the Jet engine was a rehash of older Hudson tooling - namely the generation of Hudson/Essex engines common to the '39. The difference being, a pressure oiled bottom half in lieu of the "splashers". Not to mention the Jet had a "Twin-H" option. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the '39. That is my all time favorite Hudson styling year - I like them even above the stepdowns. Hud
Well Hello from One Hudson owner to another! HRH is an acronym for HotRodHudson! I condensed the name down cuase I was lazy and would often fall asleep when spelling out my name All jokes aside you have a couple of great projects there! Where on earth in Texas did you find that 39? I would hope to think that I didn't miss that on if it was right in my own backyard.... Well good luck with the projects and welcome to the Hamb.
Hi "HRH"! Thanks! I am looking at getting the first nut loosened on Project #1 very soon (the '46) - have been acquiring parts-n-pieces for months, a little at a time. The '39 Hudson truck was located in Nocona, Tx. I actually came across the 'for sale offer' for the '39 on the HET Forum, as part of a discussion on ANOTHER '39 that was up for auction in Denver, CO (didn't meet reserve at auction - seller is looking for around 52k for it). Initially, I was just trying to assist the seller (Jim G.), but when I saw pictures of the truck, I couldn't resist... Won't be getting anything else, for quite a while. I am still 'looking' - don't think that'll EVER stop, but sanity has kicked in - and I realized I can only do so so much - given time AND budget.
I think I know that pickup - or at least I've seen pictures of it. I'll look through my archives, and if I can find it, I'll post it... Found the picture I have of it. It is a '46, at least from the grille work I see -
40 pickup! Hmm Sounds interesting! I have a 40 five window coupe. So 40s have a special place in my heart! So 46hudsonpu, Are you going to run the 3-piece grill on the 39, Those grills are so alien looking but they're awesome. How is the Hudson site! Ive talked to a few guys in the Hudson essex club but they wernt all that polite due to theyre probably thinking who is this punk kid and what the hell is he doing with a Hudson
Actually, it's a '39. The other two are both 46's. At this point, I am of the opinion that the grille(s) are a unique feature to that year & model pickup, and sets it apart from the rest. Unless something drastic happens - it will stay - in fact, I already have acquired a spare 'set' of the side grilles. I see a quite large disparity in the HET Club. The current management, operation, focus & drive of the club appears to be in the preservation of Hudsons in a 'stock' condition, as they came from the factory/dealer. I see the HET Club in the midst of 'change' - it will need to do so, to survive as an organization - at least in my opinion. While there is a place for those who keep their ride in 'stock/original' condition, there should also be an equal place for those who want to modify their vehicles, whether for comfort, speed, performance, etc.. Not in the background, or 'shoved' aside like "black sheep" or "step-children". Those that decide to 'go another route' with their Hudsons should be on an equal plane with the traditionalists. The only way I see to assist this change along is to be a part of it...
