  1. Cool stuff pops up for sale. 9CE497BC-7F53-4430-BCE5-7A4A47D57703.jpeg F7FCF46C-C85A-49FD-B34F-758BC0353EDF.jpeg 4D54E061-3C19-454A-B21F-BD300AA4FF00.jpeg ED509B78-07BF-4D48-A143-9DCF6DEFE28E.jpeg E26A1608-5240-4FFB-81DB-50969AC0BFFE.jpeg D21AA0B0-21C0-4F33-BED4-DC6D58BDE34E.jpeg

  2. Seen better day but looks like much higher quality than most of the old round track cars I see up for sale. The cage construction I mean.

  3. This one only had 2 usable pictures I could post.
Current owner says it came from north Georgia.
    Has a shine runner vibe. C03CF5DA-E1DB-4EC5-9DE1-6210890728A5.jpeg 2AACA558-5688-4C18-9CF6-DF83312738FB.jpeg

Those are cool. I could see myself in that 41 Chevy coupe even though I can’t see much of that coupe. :D

The '55 is neat looking, but I don't see how that one could ever be much more than a yard art, especially with the inner door skins cut out, it's not even a donor car for a 4 door conversion anymore. Stock car tracks around here wouldn't let it race either. Would be cool to clean it up somewhat and set it on the roof of a racecar shop or something like that.

What intrigues me about the coupe is the shifter handle sticking out of the floor, is that just a rudimentary shifter controlling a Hyrdramatic or is that thing got some kind of stick trans in it? If it's got a stick, what flywheel/bellhousing and clutch is it using? That could be some real cool early hotrod stuff.

  14. The coupe has a stick. Ad doesn’t say for what.
The 55 would be allowed to run on tracks where I live.
I have a friend that builds and drives round track cars on the street.
Climbs in like the Duke Boys. A skin with a DOT windshield. Adds lights He lives in NY.

Where I live a vin verification, notarized bill of sale and I get a tag

Drives the crap out of em.
I looked into building one like that here. No issues as long as the vin is good, has a windshield with a wiper and the lights work.

  19. But honestly, how is driving a round track ride on the street any different that driving a drag strip ride on the street

Yeah, there are a number of race inspired and true race on the the street...many are a wee bit shinier though versus Mad Max but at the end of the day if it's legal...good to go...

Regarding driving race cars on the street. I used to drive a 55 Chevy with a 409 at a local short track just outside 0f New Orleans. Dixieland Speedway in St. Rose specifically. One Sunday afternoon after a day of racing an
axle on our trailer broke while we were loading the 55 for the trip home. The trailer would be
okay to travel home empty, but could not take the weight of the race car. So... I just fired it up and drove
it back to the house. The guys in the tow vehicle were traveling pretty slow due to the damaged trailer.
On the way I got a lot of startled looks from folks in general traffic. A local Kenner cop pulled up beside me at a red light and gave me an inquiring look and a whats up kind of shoulder shrug. I shut off the 409 and shouted
over to him " trailer broke at the track" he just nodded and motored away about his business when the light
changed. I did as well. No big deal in the very liberal New Orleans culture of the Sixties.

  23. Requirements at tracks depend on class. Sometimes older cars will do laps for entertainment purposes. Not necessarily racing.
Ive dine that with my bus on our local track
One track locally was running vintage cars in a class. I haven’t seen the rules for those.
We did a stock class build once. Rules called for a 3/16 plate to overlap the drivers door.
A structure between the roof and floor. Usually old driveshafts bolted to the roof and floor with a H brace welded between them. The battery in the inside, cut off switch, seat belt and a helmet.

  24. I think a restored/tribute stock car would be a blast to drive on the street. Bright colors, lots of stickers, cage, climb in and out ……
No chrome to deal with, simple gauges, no interior no expensive speed parts except possibly the rear end.

Id love to build #12. I have a soft spot for old racecars and I want to build a roadrace car next. If only it were closer.

I've been looking at a 52 Nash Statesman sedan. The front seat folds back to almost make a bed. I suspect this Nash has been the scene of love-making, you know, fornication. Does anyone know anyone that may have been involved with this car? Sorry, no pictures available, just to protect the innocent. Anyone got any idea if I could do the same if I bought it? How about some phone numbers as I'm not on Facebook or those other things.

Cool stuff! Used to work with a mechanic when I was in high school; he told me about a Ford that he bought at an auction in the mid '60s. Windows didn't work, so he pulled the door panels to investigate and discovered someone had built moonshine tanks in them, one of which still had some left in it. He said his drag car ran really well on that stuff!

As far as driving race cars on the street, been there, done that when I was sixteen. Built the stock car, had no money left for a trailer. The feed plant my Dad worked at said they'd let him use one of their grain trucks, but we had no way to load it at home. (track had a ramp to load/unload) So I drove the thing about 15 miles from home to the plant and used the loading dock to drive into the truck. Looking back at this, I realize my Dad was pretty damn cool.
