My son took my granddaughter up north to see her great grandfather over the weekend. He took them to church in his Plymouth. They had a ball.
I asked my son if grandpa lit the tires up on the way, he said “No, but when we were out in his old Impala we started talking about his dirt track racing days. He lit the tires up then because he got fired up just talking about it!” :)

Looks kind of like Jake's old tub. But this thing is missing the hood and has air bags on the front.

The driver is like, "Check my custom machine..."
All the men are like, "Boy houdy, that's the bee's knees!"
The women are like, "I never!"
    The driver's wife is like,
    "Stick it up your corsets."

    Hello,

In looking at our old family photos yearly, to see which ones we give away to relatives or throw away it always fun to listen to stories about my wife’s family. Growing up as 20 somethings with different values as relatives is always a chore. But, that is the way of the world. We can’t all think the same, but, within a family, it does dark moments.

So, when a funny photo pops up and a new set of facts also pops up, we just sit back and absorb what was being said, as “yea, sure…” Two sisters are now old and when they get together, the laughs come out as if they were teenagers being dragged to their dad’s wishes for a summer/winter vacation, despite their disapproval. Ha!

My wife’s family was always going to do stuff, the dad wanted to do. When he wanted a boat, they got a boat. It did not matter that the rest of the family did not want a boat or take time away from friends during vacations, etc. But, that is what the dad wanted and so they got a boat. The a family photo keeps popping up and then the memories start to flow.
upload_2024-12-24_4-19-54.png The Salton Sea is one of the largest inland body of water in California. It is desolate and strange. But, families during those old days went there because it was different than camping along the forested places and other beach locations. Plus, there were stories of being able to float in the water easily.

So, getting on the bandwagon one Christmas, I spent time in the garage setting up my assembly line to make three identical 59 Chevy station wagons to include the items seen on the family photo back from those old days.

I made 3 matching 1959 Chevy Station Wagons from my Hot Wheels/Matchbox Collection garage. Including the massive stuff piled on top, including the "heavy canvas orange, dome tent." I am still looking for a matching outboard runabout in the style they had back then.

With that big project under wraps and the next one with a deadline fast approaching, I made this version of a family sedan memory. Our whole extended family has a tradition of making a secret gift with specific names selected, as a hand made gift of no more than $15 dollars for parts and supplies. (sometimes, the limit is pushed a little, to get it right)

But, the little memories still get the thoughts rolling, good or bad. At the time, no one liked water skiing. The head of the family made them try waterskiing behind the small outboard powered boat. Plus, the taste of saltwater, as thick as the Salton Sea is for salt water, makes it worse with a mouthful after an open mouth fall.
    upload_2024-12-24_4-24-58.png
But, those memories still are a part of my wife’s history, despite the empty barren Salton Sea water/shoreside camping adventures. They always tried to get to a barren campsite next to the salty water. It is a good thing the family camping was about 66 years ago. Today, the Salton Sea Is not a nice place to go camping and it is getting worse every year. Pollution from all sorts of products, farms and irrigation, as well as air pollution contribute to a “stay away” notice to all families.

    Note:

Here it is in the early, rough stage of the project. What I thought was ready for some detailing. Sanded the original color and got it ready for a coat of primer.

I originally painted one empty shell a bright red to highlight the Christmas color for a gift, but, decided to paint them as close to the original paint offered at the hobby store.
