I haven't taken any recently. Here is from several months ago. I bought the Austin body so I can run it in an altered cl*** when not able to race with other HAMBsters.

Good luck with that. We'll see you at Tulsa. Last year's Ramrod car found a good home.

Sounds like the 4bbl flap is taken care of.
But if you really want to put it to rest, Offenhauser makes a dual 1bbl intake for the Leaning Tower Of Power. If you can't order it from them and have it delivered in a reasonable amount of time, they show up on ebay pretty regularly. I always thought those would be a better intake, as it makes the intake runners a little more even. With the carb in the middle of the stock, 2- and 4-bbl intakes, the two middle runners are really short, and the 1 and 6 intake runners are a mile long. With the 2x1, the carbs are space at #2 and #5, so those intake runners are short, and then the 1,3, 4,6 runners are longer, but not a mile long.
Hunt up a pic, and see what you think.
And if it becomes an issue, you can probably make an adapter to run 2bbl carbs.
    Damn I wish I hadn't sold my 1961 Aluminum 225 Slant 6!

The Austin body is OK by me. I do reccomend a diagonal downtube in the rear, like I have now. I lost all my photos when the hard drive crashed. I'll post plenty of pics this weekend.

I have 4 feet of clearance walking under a ten foot ladder. I shot the picture low...shooting up at the roll bar...optical illusion.

I've been on the sidelines watching this HAGR deal unfold with great interest. As an old drag racer it rekindled an old desire to see how fast I could go. Well, from my vantage point I can see the same old things emerging that happened to "organized" drag racing. When Godzilla mentioned we have to have a set of "rules" so the first time we squabble at a Goodguys event they will send us packing It became clear where this was heading. Who gives a rats *** what Goodguys thinks or does with this cl***? What happened to Guidelines (as apposed to rules)? Isn't this a HAMB deal? If this amounts to anything, and it's way to soon to tell, Good guys will be asking (begging) us to attend and we will be accepted for what we are not what they perceive us to be.
Already, this early in the game, the personalites that will or want to dominate are emerging. It's thinly veiled at this point but mark my words the stage is set. I suppose human nature is something you can't change (or would want to ) but if anyone thinks this deal will turn out any different than any other human endevor have I got some prime real estate to offer at a "good" deal.
If we're already concerned about block date codes can it be far away for a protest on an unapproved throttle return spring?
There is an old saying and its SO true, "those who choose to ignore history are doomed to repeat it." Nuff said.
Ryan, I don't envy you one bit, the kids are starting to get restless.

  8. I wouldn't give a **** about what other organizations or tracks are saying unless you want to run those events.

I also don't have a problem with rules. They are there, build a car that goes by them, go out and have fun. Sounds simple to me.

I do have one question though. I know Carl at Mokan has not set any "max ET" like that other track did at 11.99

But if it were set... you know what we would end up with, don't you?

And if we did end up with that... it wouldn't be the end of the world... it would be the beginning of making this a truly affordable cl*** for racing.

Also... are the rules posted somewhere for all to see and read? If so, where? If not, can we get them posted?

Maybe we could sit down and iron out the year-engine deal...

    Sam.

I just dont get it. Every time a post is made of a guy showing off his work on his new HA/GR it ends in a big ******* match about the rules from the guys that dont even own one. I have been racing a long time just like the rest of you,I know what happens to heads up racing. Were having alot of fun now, lets just keep it that way for as long as we can. Now where's my Nitro can.:D :D

  10. Personally, I don't see anyone ******* 'n moaning except the people who are ******* and moaning about the guys they think are ******* and moaning.

Also, show me link to where a guy showed off his brand new HA/GR and it turned into a ******* match from the guys that don't even own one. I get on here daily, and look at all the HA/GR threads... and don't remember seeing a single thread like that... let alone "Every time"...

The DRAMA seems to come from the guys wanting drama... not from the guys wanting to hash things out.

Besides, the only thing i'm trying to do is help guide the cl***... so it DOESN'T end up in a big ******* match... and the cars LOOK like something from 1951... are safe, and fun.

So... when we come across something that is borderline... is it a problem to talk about it like adults?

Well said Sam. I am just trying to build a car that I can have fun racing in the ha/gr cl***. The only thing that concerned me was that I thought I was conforming to the rules and spirit. Sounds like I was/am after the discussion. No worries here. I am totally excited about all of this. At this point I don't even care about winning, more that I just care about having fun. I am sure the compe***ive side will come out once I have a few successful runs, though. :D

Thanks for all you have done to put this cl*** together.

I own the HAMB Drags, not the HA/GR cl***... That cl*** is owned by the fellas that built the cars. Sam helped start the group and I know from the beginning they were all pretty happy with Sam's rules. That said, I don't think anyone ever said those rules were set in stone. This thing needs time to evolve.

Look fellas, this whole HA/GR thing is going to be a mess for a couple of years till we all figure out the best way to cl*** all of the cars. Knowing that, you are nuts if you are building one of these cars for the sole purpose of winning a trophy. If you are building one, it should be for the absolute purpose of having fun! Nothing more... compe***ion will come later, if ever...

The guy that gets the trophy at the hamb drags this year, might not be the guy with the fastest ET fellas... Or it might... it will be upto all of the guys with HA/GR cars to decide... I'm just going to provide the trophy.

    ....

Oh... and FAb32... You certainly aren't going to the moon anytime soon are ya? :) If these fellas remember one thing, this **** will work. That one thing? Have fun.

One more thing... You know what I really dig? The people that have actually already built the cars and have driven them could give a **** about all of this for the most part. They are just having fun man... I think that is RAD.

Hell, Larry has a friggin' flathead car (one of my favorites actually) and he is actually pro-four barrel for this slant six car! That's says something...

Well stated!!!! I talk to larry several times a week on the phone and have drank a few beers over at his place. He is a great guy. Truth be told, the crooked 6 car would not be anywhere near completion without him. He has given me much needed support along the way. Great guy!!!!!! ok, enough ****ing up. :D

Is there a link to the rules somewhere? I'd like to read 'em.
I'd love to build one of these but livin' in Wa it'd be tough makin' it to MoKan to race.
Looks like a helluva good time!!!

I'm with Sinister - the more I think about it the more this is starting to look like a great idea for a winter project, build the cl*** for 2007. But, I need some direction. Does anybody have a good resource for tech info on vintage dragsters to go along with the basic rules that are on the hamb?

I think I would like to end my contribution to this thread with one more thought. I too have raced for 33+ years in everything from sail boats, go carts, Porsches, flat bottom drag boat, early and late model stock cars, formual Ford, super modified, Super Stock, Gt1 to most recently a 55 g***er.

In every form of racing I have been involved in there has been a specific set of rules to govern how my racer was to be built. In EVERY form of racing there has been those who felt the other guy (sometime me) was cheating and pitched a *****...every single form of racing I have ever been involved in. I don't think its a personality...I think it is just the nature of racing.

So...I have tried to embrace this deal and the "spirit" of the pionners who started this sport in the 50's. I think they liked compe***ion...but I think that they just wanted to have fun and test their ability to build something with their own hands that they could race...and I think that is very cool.

I thought it would be cool to be involved in the development of this cl***, make new friends and just have fun. So far I have had a blast building my car and talking with guys on the Ramrods and Hornets. I think it would be a shame if when it comes time to race my car for the first time it turns out to be, "just another form of racing."
