The Yahoo Cup has become something to look forward to for many people over the years. The idea of building something not only for your own enjoyment, but something that makes a statement of your intentions big or small. Sometimes it's planned, other times it's just a by-product of your own vision. This year the battle was not only in the minds of each participant, but against the Missouri weather. Because of the latter not playing nice with others, track officials deemed it safer to run the eighth-mile instead of the whole 1320. Being in attendance, I am forced to agree with their decision. The few cars that were able to make passes (and some that made full passes) had to contend with the less-than-favorable track conditions that persisted even in the face of the tremendous job the Folks at MoKan did trying to stave off Mother Nature and let us make our runs. There were some dicey runs that made sure there an ample supply of clean underwear were required. Let me tell you, there are some exceptional drivers in the seats of those jalopies and the talent was evident in this year's contenders. Given the short track and the lack of traction offer up buy the track, the competition was very tight. Less than on-half a second separated the top five contenders and less than a full second separated all the times slips turned in. So without further rambling, this year's winner of the 1/8 mile Yahoo cup is none other than our very own Flamedabone, yet again. His water-logged eighth-mile run of 9.23 was the top run for the cup. This makes him a 3-time winner and not only the first to run a 10 second time, but also the winner of the slowest time to win the cup. That is not taking anything away from his car or effort but squarely lays the blame on the rain. He motored on in the face of undesirable conditions, throwing caution to the wind (rain) to come out on top. I just hope we get a chance to see what his 40 coupe will do under better conditions next year. Also, you must remember that he nearly always gets the title of longest distance driven to the event with this 1100 miles on-way drive just to show his pretty face in Joplin. He doesn't get much sleep while he's here, but I hope he stays awake all the way home.
What kind of engine combo does he run? Intake, heads, trans, rear gears you know, give us some technical stuff from a 3 time winner.
Congrats flamed a-bone. Here’s a hardcore hot rodder putting street gears back in after making a run at the cup! @Rocky Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Flamedabone's 40 in the rain and another as I pulled up next to him on the interstate, just before the rain hit .Scary fast car! Yeah, my photo capabilities suck! Congrats, Jeff!
Congrats @flamedabone on achieving the times that make the difference...no easy feat I am sure...I also extend high praise to all the others vying for the Hayhoe......I mean Yayhoo Cup...the Hamb Grammy of sorts......great job everyone. Thanks to those sharing the experience and pics as well...
We have been dodging Mother Nature for 17 years and this time she finally smacked us in the pee-pee. Even with the shitty weather, that was still one of the best HAMB Drags ever. I would like to thank everyone who put for the effort to keep the Yay-Hoo Cup going this year. Russco, Raven, Tim, Rocky and all the guys who showed up to flip Mother Nature the bird. Thanks again and I'll see you guys in a year. -Abone.
Didn’t realize you were so high dollar ; ) And the way that poncho sounded rolling into the parking lot at Pete and Jakes it’s no surprise he won. That suckers baaaaaad
Great Job...is that a bottle opener?... Its a Handle Right? Well the Indy Winners had milk...You fellas a pint maybe eh...
I'm going to just let people ASS-U-ME the 9.23 is a quarter mile..... Thanks for your effort, it means a lot. See you in a year. -Abone.
And that is why there is an * instead of a star. To indicate that something is different in your run. [emoji13] r Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
