I have always hated Sandblasting more than about anything else I do! I mean the Pressurepot way not with a blast cabinet......The Hot weather coupled with my declining vision added in really makes it tough to see what you are blasting-the part or your hand that is holding the part!THAT REALLY*****IN HURTS.... I ve always used the hood that came with the pressure pot blaster I use. This has had the lens replaced a couple dozen times and does not last very good even that often.....It always steams over your porthole to the light so bad that after about a minute you're blasting like Ray Charles. I finally tried somethin as a last resort to finish a job I was blasting[a 1904 Santa Fe railroad coal stove for Mrs Chop]. As usual I was blinded with steamy FOGGY LENS and was pissed off too-so I shut it off and looked around for a quick replacement.....I laid a shop towel over my hair[whats left] and grabbed the grinding safety shield[you know] the one with the large curved lexan full face shield]it covers down to your chest and up over the forhead and has an adjustable band that snugs to your head size.I slapped it on over the shop towel[ALA ahab the Arab]....then with a small dust mask and a pair of wraparound safety glasses UNDER that shield I started blasting again.....I WAS FREE!!!!!-It was like a revelation...I was cool and comfortable and wasn't gettin sand in the ear or eys or HAIR....and most importantly I COULD*****IN SEE PERFECTLY for a change-NO STEAM/FOG!. I believe this superbly superior alternative to a sandblastinhg hood costs 16 dollars at Ace hardware...replacement shield covers are available seperately. I little bit of no Brainer Tech From this old Idiot -but it IS worth checking out, if you've ever done any blasting in 80 plus degree or higher heat!
I use a hood with tear offs and the air fed respirator I bought for shooting isocyanate paints. Kinda like built in air conditioning.
Lens....a guy I used to work with, gave me a fine screen to replace the lens in the blast hood. No more foggy lens!
Open air sandblasting IS a real******, all right! Glad ya found a workable soloution...just hope the troops don't mistake ya for one o' their targets with all that sand flyin' around your toweled head, Bro!!!
Great solution. I have this problem trying to weld in the heat too. From someone who was a certified pressure vessel welder who could weld a nats**** onto a flyswatter, My eyesight is not what it used to be either. I have never tried it but I wonder if the antifog***** from rainX works for this.
