I used these videos as a quick how to in order to get all of the dings out of my stainless trim pieces. I worked on the 4 that needed dings and dents taken out of them for a few hrs last nite and they turned out pretty good. Tonite I will finish sanding them and start polishing them.

great build. been watching for awhile. i see your'e still looking for pontiac trim off 2 door. the 4 door trim won't work or to much trouble. just curious , been looking for the same trim for my car. never thought about 4 door trim. could it work?

I think that it can work. I am trying to figure out the best way to bend the edge over nicely where I cut the trim to line up with the edge of the door piece. I have some spare beltline trim that I am going to cut and practice with. Thinking either small pliers to roll 1/4 inch over on the edge or make a hammer form with a block of wood and an old piece of trim cut nice mounted to it as a nice edge to hammer the trim over. I will probabally work on this this weekend or next week. I did recieve my 4 door trim last nite and it looks really nice.

the 2 door model i guess would bolt right on? the 4 door trim has to have a piece added. is that right?

The 2 door will bolt right onto the Chevy's. Im not sure what the 4 door trim is going to need done yet. I worked on the passenger side rear window tonite. Hopefully Sat I will button up that window and the regulator and get onto the side trim next week.

Got a little done to the car today. I picked up a set of 4 door Pontiac trim off of a fellow HAMB'r. I got it modified to work on the car today. Here are a couple of pics of how I did the mods. Also got the passenger side rear window working today but it needs a little more mods.

Pic 1: I put the trim up on the car to find where it needed to mount to keep a constant gap to the curve of the quarter. Then made another mark about 1/8-1/4" away, also trim the flats off of the bottom of the mark where it is going to be bent. This has to be really close to where the edge will be bent over to so that it is bent to close the gap is un noticeable after it is done. After the trim was cut I used a small set of vice grips to bend over the edge of the trim a little at a time until it was close to what I wanted. I worked the length of the cut multiple times to get it bent over and squeezed the trim with my other hand to make sure it did not flatten out the shape and make it wider at the end. Next I used a piece of rail road tie that was small to fit inside the trim, I got the edge bent over really good and ready to file to get it nice and smooth and ready for sanding. A 1/2 inch was cut off the other end to mate up with the other trim piece. Last pic is with it mocked up on the car.

The next step is to finish up polishing up all the beltline trim and figure out how to do the joint between the factory trim and the Pontiac piece, anyone have any insite into how to make the lap joint, or I will have to make a clip to go over the 2 pieces.

  11. If you need a piece to go over the joint let me know, I have a couple of trim pieces to cover a joint.

[IMG] would be hard to duplicate the factory joint, like the center of the trim on back. only thing i can think of is welding it with the other piece then polish. i saw it done but i don't know how. maybe someone will no how.

I do not have a tig to weld the pieces together. I have an extra set of beltline trim, so I'm gonna cut the offset off the pieces where they meet in the middle of the car, and polish these up and use them as a cover for the joint.

Got a little done for the car today after we hit up a local swapmeet. All of the beltline trim is all straightened out and the machine polishing is complete. Next step is to polish them by hand a little bit and install them.

Get the cuts perfect and have a welding shop weld it up.. They would be small welds, betcha it wouldn't cost hardly anything to have it done.

Thanks for the compliments on the car guys. I got a ton of stuff done to the car this weekend. The rear windows are installed. All of the beltline trim is on except for the caps for the transition for the Pontiac trim to the original beltline.

Also got the wing windows completely modified, all of the fuzzies installed in the doors, and templates made for the door glass.

Also assembled the wiper shafts into the car and capped them off with a set of bullets from Danchuck.

The cap parts are made to put over the end of the Pontiac trim, just need to clean up the edges a little better and polish them up.

I ran into an issue with the wing window crank hitting the dash. I was thinking about modifying the wing windows to add a spring at the bottom to make them manual open. I decided to modify the regulators to remove the shaft the crank attached to. The screw adjusts the tension on the pivot so I hope it works.

Just sat here and read entire thread, you have done an amazing job there! cant fault anything youve done, i have a '51 styleline 4 door that ive just got and am getting together bits to install a 350 sbc th350 and camaro 10 bolt rear, going with the airshocks its got installed at mo but bagging the rear later on after ive had a bit of fun out of it. Its flat black at the mo but going to run it that way for a while in a kind of ratlook style, Im sure what you have done will influence me in mine, im subscribed so i can pop back and check on anything i get stuck with. Well done tho and hope you have some happy hotrodding in the future!!
