Folks Of Interest Andy Griffith passed this morning at 86

Even though I watch it daily for advice and therapy, today in a more somber mood I'm playing the Andy Griffith Show all day on my media player without commercial interruption. I feel like my favorite uncle is gone now. RIP Andy.

I loved The Andy Griffith Show as a kid. I still watch it when it's on a cable channel. The combination of Andy and Don Knotts was unbeatable.

 

Sad news indeed. Always enjoyed The Andy Griffith Show. Television back then was sure different than most of the crap on the screen today. But like Andy, all good things, sooner or later, come to an end.

 

A class act all the way! He will be sorely missed!

I first saw that movie about 5 years ago on TCM.
It was hard to get my head around him playing such a character!
Incredible performance! I highly recommend this film to anyone who hasn't seen it!

Saddens me also. He seemed to be a good person. Watch some time and see how many people from The Andy Griffith show end up on Matlock. Ron Howard said that is one thing he learned from Andy.

Yeah, Hollywood would never let a show like this happen again. Today, Mayberry 2012 would read something like this:

The Barney character would be cast as a gay deputy that has been subjected to severe abuse at the hand of his boss, the evil and corrupt Sheriff Andy Taylor.

The hero character would be Thelma Lou, Barney's transvestite life partner and activist with a mission to rid the world of the hate crimes that Barney has endured.

Opie would be a pale and sickly youth that has lost his ability to speak because texting has been his only form of communication for over two years since becoming a smart phone addict.

Floyd, Aunt Bee and all other older characters would be briskly sent to assisted living and their characters written off of the show.

Briscoe Darlin' would be a Columbian drug lord.

The Dillards would be a rap group.

Otis would be a meth tweaker and serial burglar, but still have keys to the cell.

Helen and Andy break up because Andy finds inappropriate texts sent to Opie.

The Ernest T. Bass character would be cast as the pride of America......the first inbred President of the United States.

Thank you so much Hollywood for all this wonderful "correctness".

 

RIP Andy. TAGS is probably the best show ever,and Andy Griffith was an awesome man.

It's not nearly as bad,but it's kinda like losing my grandpa all over again.

Growing up in the 50's and 60's was great. Guys like Andy made TV shows like his something to look forward to each week. I loved the message and lessons learned. If I get a chance to see the old shows they still put a big smile on my face. Mayberry was like the hometown we all wished we were from.

I followed an earlier link and watched a couple of episodes of the "Andy Griffith Show" on You tube, very entertaining and so different to today's TV shows, with a real feelgood factor and a lesson of fair play. I don't think this show was broadcast in the UK , perhaps someone could enlighten me.

 

"Mmmm...that's GOOooOOOOD, Aint Beeee!"

Always struck me as a truly good-hearted man.

Was interesting to see him play Lonesome Rhodes in A Face In the Crowd. Still a country boy, but more of a cocky "upstart"...lol.

God bless Andy Griffith.

Very sad. He was my favorite actor. I love the shows he did with The Dillards. Coincidently, we also lost Doug Dillard a few weeks ago.

 

Oh man, he was the best, RIP

 

he played a vicious spirited Judge in one of those weekly TV movies and his portrayal would put shivers up your spine. he could do any acting job set before him, and that's a gift few Hollyweird folk have today.

top it off with the fact that he was a genuinely good guy, and we're the worse off for losing him.

My girlfriend and I were talking about how screwed up my childhood was last weekend. She asked me how I turned out so well and I told her that my best roll model was Andy Griffith. She understood.

 

Just heard "What It Was, Was Football" on Willies Roadhouse. Very funny yert so sad he's gone..

 

RIP Andy! you'll be missed but your work will live on.
