Sittin here drinking coffee, waiting on the shop to warm up,its freezin in Illinois. Been lookin at Anglia's,and was just wondering how many Hamber's actualy have one, especialy in Illinois .
My brother has had an Anglia for over 30 years but I don't have any pics. SBC powered w/tilt glass front end. He's currently working on a Prefect with a Mercury Capri front end (same as Mustang II) and the stock Capri V6. I'll try to get some pics of both.
Capri front ends are NOT the same as Mustang II. 69-77 Capri's were made in Europe and had a MacPherson strut front end with rack and Pinion, there were no 1978's and the name reappeared in 1979 on the Fox Bodied cars that were the same as the late mustangs, still a strut with Rack. The third generation was 1991-94 and was a front wheel drive car based on the Mazda 323. Mustang II front ends on the other hand are upper and lower A Arm with a tension strut and a rack and were based on Pinto front ends.
Mine was originaly built in England by Russ Davies and has a disc brake independant rack , set up.Its from a Vauxhall Viva. No coils between a arms has a single transverse spring to the bottom a arm,and the shock mounts like any independant front end. Strange set up but works very well.
Sheesh, take a chill pill. I made a mistake. Talked to my brother tonite and found out it's not a Capri but rather a Bobcat. He tells me the '76 Bobcat is the same as a Pinto.
My son's: All steel Opel GT front suspension 240 ci Ford inline six C4 narrowed 9" w/ 3.08 gears Runs 14s
This '48 Thames panel belongs to a good friend of mine....We are from southwest Indiana. It runs a 427 sbc injected on alcohol.
I had one kick myself in butt for selling it, to extend my bakery business last I heard that it ended up in Oklahoma, the guy I bought it from use to race it back in the late 60's, he had install a stainless floor and firewall, I turn in to a street rod drove it every where, real head turn especially when I would pop a wheely or two.
I think Don was just making a point and it's a good thing that mis-information gets straightened out. Right or wrong, people use this place for a reference and they can spend lots of time and money following information that's not correct. As long as I'm here, here's pictures of my Anglias. They're patently waiting for their turn to be worked on some more. Larry T
Exactly if someone is wrong, even me, we need to get it straightened out. When I put out misinforamtion which is bound to happen and someone else corrects it I figure that is a good thing. Not only do I learn something but the fella who doesn't no any better doesn't get screwed up because I told him the wrong thing. Now onto Anglias, Larry I like this one, even liked it with the fish scales. What ya got under the hood, uh bonnet?
Porknbeaner, Two different cars. The primered fenderless one is stretched 12" and has a LS-6 468 with Brodix heads, Comp Cams roller cam and Big Shot Nitrous system (Yea, I know. But you never know when you might need it). But I'm probably gonna pull the engine out of it an run in the 55 for a while. The black one is a car I used to race back in the 70's. It's getting a stroked 327 (actually one of the bellybutton 350s) with 12.5/1 pistons, 6" rods, Dart aluminum heads, roller,......... I've got an old Doug Nash 5 speed stashed back for it (if my old man knees hold up) and several different intakes to play with-Team G, Edelbrock tunnelram, Offy crossram. Kinda want to see how they compare. I've been looking for the original builder of the black car for 5 to 10 years. Gotta an e-mail a couple of weeks ago that just said "I built your car in 1964, sold it in 1970." I bought the car in the mid 70's from the guys he sold it too. Called the builder (Richard Lancaster), talked to him long enough to know it's his old car, and found out he has an album of the car when he owned it along with articles about the car. He ran the Texas Anglia Circuit with it and I've been trying to find info about that too. I'm pumped up about it and road trip is in the near future! Larry T
My brother an I picked up this cool Body last year: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=517938&highlight=prefect
Here is one that my best mate has had for 30 years..it was a basket case when he bought the shell and frame. He has chopped it,filled the the roof opening, rounded the door corners, removed the gutters and built a flare over the doors, smoothed the trunk lid, welded the hood into a one piece that hinges from the cowl, one hole Fordson van grill, kicked up back and front, 2.6 Ford V6,...drives the nuts off it everywhere..uses it as a daily most of the time.He once had the windshield blow in onto him while racing a Porche on his way home from work(its a nuclear fuel plant called "Springfield" I kid you not) in the early hours, he kept his foot in until he passed the Porche while holding the glass up with one hand lol .By his own addmission he would struggle to tell a 32 from a 34 and has`nt a clue about computers lol, but he is more of a hot rodder than most in my book. and here he is leaving my place after a usual Saturday afternoon tea drinking and bullshit session...taking care as usual to smoke his tyres...
Here,s mine 406-350-3.70 9 inch.trying to make it a little more hot rod and a little less street rod. RLS
This car is amazing. I meet the owner at Rock and Roll Hardy's at a cruise in Springfield when I had my primered 48 Anglia. Very nice guy and was more than willing to talk, checked mine out and thought it was cool as well.
