I am building an early 235 (1953) for a friend, we want to pull his 216 out of his 52 pickup and use the 235. The 235 has no bellhousing or flywheel. Can anyone tell me if we can use his original 216 bell, flywheel, press plate/clutch? Thanks Ken

yeah, you can use all the original stuff. Beware that the flywheel for a car that came with a 6 volt system (54 and earlier) will only work with the 6 volt starter. Although you can run the 6v starter on 12 volts.

Keep in mind that the timing ball on a 216 flywheel is located 5 degrees before TDC and is at 2 degrees after on later 235/261's. This parts combo means a timing light won't work but a vacuum gauge will do.

I have the orginal 51 216 in my truck and I don't have a timing ball on my flywheel just two letters and I found out that that timing mark is between those two letters. Like everyone said, the 216 parts will work on the 235. That's the beauty of a Chevy. Interchangeability.

Thanks guys, I thought it would all match but good to be sure, once the new engine is done we want the swap to go fast, my garage is small with many projects! Ken
