Another 32 " on the way " to being saved by a metalman

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Deuce Roadster, Jun 28, 2008.

  1. Yeah, a series of in progress photos would be educational, I'm curious how much of the metal was replaced too. The auction states the trunk and door were saved -

It just goes to show that a guy with the skills can fix anything, no matter how ****ty it seems.

Well, I'm impressed. Closing price will be interesting, I'm sure.
Question begging to be answered: What would an unsaveable 3W look like??
I'm thinking shreds sticking out from where they're wrapped around the axle of the 43rd loaded coal gondola of an express freight train...but probably someone here would successfully take that on after the railroad finished torching the bits off of its axle and tossed them into the ditch.

Not sure who's selling this thing but the comment that "[t]he firewall is an original, accompanied by a hard to find 25 louver hood" sure set off the bs meter since the hood looks like a repop item to me. Gotta wonder what else is bs about this.

I do not claim to be a authority either ( but I do own more than 2 or 3 sets of original 25 vent hood sides ) and the ones in his photos are not like the ones I have ... :)

A slightly off topic story ...

A fellow I know who lives a hundred miles from my house and fancies himself a 32 guru ... came into my area and bought a 25 vent hood from another local to me guy I know. After the out of town 32 GURU bought it ... he stopped by a fellow's house who does KNOW 32 Fords and bragged that he had sniped a 25 vent hood ... " from Deuce Roadster's backyard " :)

He was not too HAPPY when the real 32 guy told him he had paid big $$$ for a repro hood

I thought the January serial number was interesting as the cars were first produced in March. A lot of hype here.

Most people don't read much and are nervous about buying expensive old Ford stuff... nice positive, authoritative statements SELL whether true or not. Hood is a streetrod one...center crossmember at least is not super early, can't see front one, can't see if reinforcements are in place at rear hump.

That guy has a lot more guts (and skill) than I do! It's incredible how he turned a complete wreck into a great looking 3-window. Wonder what he paid for the wrecked car originally?

He's got a few hours in that. Seems like he would have taken the rebuild a little further, he'd do a lot better on the auction. nice that it was saved anyway.

That 15,000 is going to be WAY below the finish. Look at it this way...a Wescott fiber gl*** body is around 20,000, nice but no bragging rights and no appreciation, as well as no ch***is...
Buying a '32 with original body in a desireable model is kinda like buying a house in a hot area; at some point, condition becomes almost irrelevant if you want to buy in. And '32 people have the ***urance that if they screw up and pay too much, it'll be worth more than that by next Saturday. Maybe he'll double your economic stimulus check like the BMW dealer...

that body still has a ways to go. look at the back window. it's an inch smalller on the bad side. quite an improvement over the before pics though.

wish there was better pics of the wreck or some of the steps it took to get it back to this shape.

I think the point of the metalwork is that it has reached far enough that it is abundantly clear the body will save and can be built as a good car. Before, it could only be seen as a very risky borderline case for anyone not a metalworking genius. The guy took it from near-dead horror show to something that can be fixed by a merely good tinsmith.
The resurrectionist can step back from his work and let mere mortals take care of the details!

    One word: UNBELIEVABLE ..........

I would have never even figured that that kind damage could even be partially salvagable.

I am again impressed & amazed. Great job!!

My thoughts too. People will balk at a badly bent fender, but 5 minutes with a hammer to make it look "about right" and it will sell. Often well worth the time.:)

    Good work none the less!

No matter how he did it, it's still a hell of a job. I have to ask this question though. I know old cars were made out of better metal then today's **** that comes from Detroit but when metal is that crushed and it's straightened out as much as he did doesn't the metal loose some of it's strength?
