My father in law has a chevy small block in his basement and he called me to say he's never gonna use it and would I sell it? I said sure, but I gotta know what it is. He thought it was a 327 but wasn't sure. I told him to get the numbers for me and I'd see if y'all would tell me what it is. Heads are 3917290, The block has these numbers on it, as he sees 'em: TO830HJ 18D1108620 (stamped) 688H6660 (cast) Thanks!
The head numbers show up on this site as '68-'70 327. I don't see any of the other numbers you listed. http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html
I don't recognize that casting number and can't find anything on it. If the heads are original to the engine then the HJ suffix would make it a 1968-69 250 horse 327 from a full size car. Can you get the casting number off the left rear of the block, right behind the head?
The 18D1108620 Denotes it as a 68 well actually the 8 does, the D would be the assembly plant and the 1108620 is the sequential build number.
if you have the correct last three digits, it's probably a 3814660 cast number. '68-'69 327 4" bore block
Thanks y'all. We appreciate the numbers crunch. Whadda think it's worth? $250 - $300? It's a used long block
An HJ stamp means it could be: 65 Corvette 327 300hp manual trans L-75 4bbl 68 Impala 327 250hp PG L-73 4bbl there are also two 350ci engines with an HJ stamp 69 Impala 350 250hp turbo 400 L-65 2bbl 78 Pontiac 350 170hp 350turbo LM-1 4bbl (Firebird or Phoenix) There is a block casting code.....if the heads and block are the original pair, there is a head casting code under the valve cover of each head. mike
