Well, thanks to your help, I've almost gotten my axle together. I have one last question.

I'm running the forged Speedway dropped steering arms on my '37 spindles. The issue is the won't fully clear the bottom of the axle. ('36) What would be the best way to remedy this probelm? Clearance the axle or the steering arm? I would estimate that I would have to remove about 1/4" of material to eliminate the touch off. Is their any safety issues with doing either?

    TIA!

Yeah, there's safety issues with removing metal from both parts. The old tried and true way of gaining clearance is to simply heat and bend the arms down a bit and then heat and bend the ends of them back parallel with the ground.

The way to solve it is to send those arms back to Speedway and order some new arms from Compe***ion Engineering. The arms from CE don't wrap around the kingpins like the ones you have now.

I don't think I'd remove a 1/4" of material from either piece when you can get an arm that won't require any modification.

OK that's what I'll do. I didn't lke the idea of removing material either.

You're doing the right thing buying the Ch***is Engineering steering arms. Safety is no accident, get the best American made parts you can find. The FOGGER

  7. I ran into the same problem om my never ending roadster project when I found a really nice undropped, chromed '34 axle at a swap meet for $15. I hate the flat bent arms with heim joints so the CE parts are the answer.

Yeah, the flat ones do look cheesy.
