My girlfriend mentioned to me that there was an old truck in her granfathers barn, so I ask, "how old of a truck?" she says, I dunno, I think from the 30's or something. Well that sparked my attention. So then for the next month I bug her everyday if she would ask her grandfather if we could go in the barn to see what this truck is... no luck.

Finally they had a family reunion at her grandfathers house, the barn was all mine! I escape from the family and make my way to the barn, what do I see when I enter? a 30 model A cab sitting next to a Willys jeep. Her uncle ended up following me in and we got talking about the truck. It's a steak truck that they bought for the farm like 40+ years ago and about 30 years ago they took it apart to restore it, it never got back together and its been sitting ever since. some of the parts were lost when the garage they were stored in collapsed, or so they thought. So I get looking around the barn and I start finding the fenders, wheels, steering column/box, front and rear springs, the rear end... almost everything is there.

So long story short, they gave me the truck! They said they were never going to do anything with it, and the barn is going to fall on it so get it out of there asap.

arrangements for removal are in the works:D

    the barn in question

    Looks very solid.

It's a steak truck that they bought for the farm like 40+ years ago

So I guess they hauled cows with it?

Awesome find and the price was right. I'd save the cab and sell off all that big truck stuff and build a hot rod!
    Here's some food for thought...

thats a 30 or early 31... cab on pick up and big truck will bolt to car chassis...as all the chassis 28-31 are basicly the same...few changes from year to year..also aftermarket beds for A's are cheaper than most..and car fenders ect will bolt right on...nice find

As nicely as possible inquire about the jeep sitting in the background. Even if they have plans for it, get it out of that barn and into a safer building. By helping drag the jeep out of there even though it won't be yours, you'll be in the good graces of your girlfriends family for a long time.

from your avy Im guessing you already have a project or two in the works. Why not put this one back to mostly stock and try to make a parts hauler out of it. basic build with as much stock parts as you can. upgraded motor/trans rear with hydraulic brakes.

I'd love the Jeep if they don't have any takers. How far from Detroit are they?

And you never know when one of those pedal tractors will come in handy. I hid all of my steel Tonka trucks in the loft of one of our barns when I was about 14 or 15 because my mom was giving all of my 'kid' stuff away. 10 years later, I went to the farm, walked to the barn and climbed into the loft. My wife was like "What are you doing up there???" until I started handing down dump trucks, tractors, a fork truck, and a few other items. My mom just laughed because she had no clue I'd done it or how I remembered they were there. My boys still have them but they are 15 and soon to be 13 so they'll be going back in a loft for another 10 years I suspect!

And yes, I'd put it back together as a big truck but this time with a flathead and a 4 speed.

The joke about hauling cattle is that it is actually Stake rather than Steak. It is called that due to the fact you can put sides on them by putting wooden or metal stakes into pockets around the perimeter of the bed. Good pun though.

  19. the jeep in the background looks just like the one out my back door lol it looked like that truck does when i went to pick it up 20 years ago....scattered all over the place...had to hunt to find all the parts..weindsheild by pig lot, grille on top of chicken coupe, ya get the idea..only everyting was covered in poop!!!!now it has full cage, power steering 4 inch lift ect...great truck..definitely drag the jeep out...hell ya might get it given to ya too..oh and there're worth a nice lil pile of cash too:D

  20. Oh, I dunno...the last early ford cab I had ended up as this...nothin fancy but great fun!.. I paid less than 500 for the cab & doors and after a year of collecting parts I had a runner.

Looks like a real nice cab, the AA running gear may be hard to find a home for.

Free is the only time you don't have to ask "will you take less?":D Good score. I'd also be asking about the Jeep. They are a fun vehicle and not too expensive to bring back to life. Of course you could always install a blown Hemi and...................................easy Frank.

    I've got a Dubble A truck - mine's a '29 though.

Check out some of what I did with it, or have done with it so far. I need to get my butt back out there and get to work on it!

If you need a bed frame, I've got one that I'll never use - and most of the brackets and parts that go to the wooden sides as well. I'll make you a helluva deal on it!

My Dubble A is linked to my signature.

As far as finding a home for the AA running gear, those wheels may be worth a small fortune depending on who made them. Budd wheels are pretty desirable. Check the web for the AA forum. I lost the link, but it's small and good for ONLY AA and TT trucks.
