You can never tell where they are hiding The 39 Ford has been lurking in this barn for years, plate on the back reads 1953 The old Ford is pretty complete and has 44340 miles on it
I struck the deal with the owner, and on Memorial Day weekend I brought it home. We removed the barn doors and it got a fresh breath of air. The 39 Ford 4 door was rolled over in 1947. The drivers side running board is still dented from where it came to rest on the owners father. (who survived the wreck) They cut the back half off of the car and build a flat bed for it. (very wide boards in the bed, they had a saw mill on the farm) The trucks was used to haul stuff around the farm and still has some coal "dust" in the bed The former owner is sitting on the trailer. He said it was running about 20 years ago Here it is safe at home Next is to see if I can get the flatty to fire!
That thing looks pretty good as a truck...............Keep us posted on the progress, I would like to see how this project comes out.
I know where you can get a donor car for the back half if you want to turn it into a two door sedan. P.M. me if your interested.
The plan is to get the flatty running and use the chassis/running gear for my '38 Deluxe Coupe. I think I am going to put this body over on my other frame that is set up for a 302 C-4 MII... I may cut it into a rpu because the roof was dented in and beaten out after the roll over, as well as the drivers door was wasted. I have an extra (rough) drivers door from my coupe that I plan on putting on it. I may also shorten the bed a little in the front, and form the back of the cab for some more room. I am open to ideas thou...
Nice find, how the heck did you ever find it? Thanks for sharing the story and pics.. I especially like the one with the original owner setting on the trailer.. brian
Thanks for the replys. I don't have any room for any more stuff right now. I may have to get rid of the Jerry Hill chopped Chrysler...I have known about the '39 for some time, kept bugging him, and he was finally ready to part with it. I got the flathead to turn over, cleaned the points...just need the return line (dry rotted) from the oil filter and new plug wires before I (hopefully) fire it up.
