Another chopped fleetline ('50)...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by shifty50, Oct 12, 2007.

  1. Seen a few of these on here lately so thought I'd share mine. Has a lot of metalwork left, especially decklid and roof, but close to moving/stopping/steering under it's own power.

I am normally anti-chopping of fastbacks, but yours looks like it has some nice proportions. how about a better side view

How about some more progress pics. I'm studying for my 46 master deluxe coupe. This will be my first chop, I can only hope it turns out as nice as yours.

    I love the look.

  6. My shop is a little small for a full profile view but here's two more pics.

I dig the slanted post. You don't see those enough on fastback chops. I want to do the same with my '50 Buick sedanette. Nice job!

  15. Thanks for all the compliments!! I have quite a few in progress pics but most are from the same angles (I rent a small corner of a large shop and can't really move the car much) I'll try to post some here and there. The pics in black are where it's at currently, the car was purchased in '02 and the majority of the chop done 2 or 3 years ago. I just recently lit a bonfire under my ass to finish this project and purchased the rest of what is needed to make it roadworthy I hope. Still will be a major work in progrees when drivable but I can't wait anymore. Focus, focus...

How I bought it in '02

Doin' the deed, 5" at front windshield.

Early mockup of 4" stretch detail (too eager to start cutting, not stipped yet) Also rear section ended up being layed down quite a bit more and front half decrowned a little after this pic was taken.

    shifty50,

Your ride looks very cool, the chop looks perfect. The fleetline is a good looking ride and will make a great cruiser. I cruise in a '49 Caddy fastback. Lets see more pic's sometime.

Looks very nice, the roof has a nice flow to it, great proportions

  24. Takes a lot of stones to cut a Fleetline, because it's a lot of work to do it right and not have it look like shit when you're done. That one's one of the best I've seen - if the finished car is the same quality as the work you've shown so far, I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple magazine features on it turn up.

  25. There is something about a fleetline, when chopped right not many cars look as good. Im kinda supprised at the number (OK, Like 2) of guys not feeling the love!
That is done all sorts of RIGHT! Props to ya!

Nice, keep up the good work.

  27. A few more pics of the chop in progress.

-Roof dropped down, 4" stretch, rear window frames forward (afterthought, but helped window/rear half proportions, plus I didn't have to fabricate a section of driprail), rear section laid down, slight decrowning of front section to start flow, filling in gaps.

hello, I have been working on a 50 fleetline for some time now and would like to chop the top. I had all but given up on the idea after seeing others. Yours is the only one I have seen that looks good to me. I don't like the large fins most end up with. I would be greatful if you would send pictures of the construction phase. I don't mean to copy your car I only need a better idea of what need to be done to get a job something like yours.
    Thanks, Skip
