Funny how some of you here have a "get over it" mentality. "the guy made a mistake, we all have made mistakes" Really? If you're the guy that puts on the event and buys liability insurance, you won't think its so godamned funny that knotheads like this gotta repeatedly demonstrate how foolish they can be. You'll notice the car is wrecked, indicating some speed was involved, enough that some bystander or two could have been killed or worse, maimed, it would have cost the event holders liability insurance enough that he'd never hold another event, penalising us all.
Things like this aren't mistakes, or one time events, they are examples of car owners who exercise very poor judgement, listening to the cheers of bystanders who can't fathom what it took to even build cars, never mind abuse them for applause. We all like horsepower, we all love to see it shown off but in the right setting, not on a downtown street with people and parked cars everywhere.
Excuse my rant, but as a car show promoter, guys like this can make my life very uncomfortable, because they don't give their actions and ramifications a further thought.

I'm surprised no one has a video of the burn out and crash.

  4. So does this make my brain a toy? I once had a teacher that said if I had a brain I would take it out and play with it, which I did the next time I had a chance.

We have all done something dumb at on time or another, most of us prior to have a mid life crisis and building a car. Some of us got lucky and our dumb antics didn't cause much damage and others not so lucky but being stricken with the dumbass is common malady among people like us.

I personally hope that the guy does not have to do time and has learned the error of his ways. I am not admitting to having done time publicly on an internet forum, but in my experience people who think someone should do time have no idea what it is like on the inside. A lot of the time supervised probation and *real community service is all it takes for one to learn the error of his ways.

*let him rub shoulders with the real dregs of society for a few hundred hours.

went to you tube and there was no video. I'd say this didn't actually happen.:)

saw lots of other folks crashing their cars for peoples entertainment. mostly "tuners" late model Muscle cars or exotics. the tuners seem to have a need to rev the motors until they pop and spit. don't understand that one.

saw one Model A that rear ended a old truck at some sort of cruise with people all around, and a 57 or so corvette burn rubber and drive up the curb. those were the only two cool cars.

All this, and I just cant get over how poorly written the article is. Nothing but quotes from people who knew people who had dogs that were petted by people who said they might have seen it happen had they not gone to pet the dog.

If you let off the go pedal when the car is getting sideways and the tires bite, it takes some pretty quick maneuvering to get the car straight again. Impaired a bit by alcohol and slowed reflexes can get you in trouble real fast. My DD is a 1994 Buick Roadmaster powered by a pretty stout LT1 (from the factory) and it has a limited slip diff as part of the trailer towing package. Even that heavy old sled can get out of control pretty fast if you have a heavy foot.

Momentum. Once a object is in motion it will continue in its course until it runs out of energy.
The phrase is something like that

I have a friend that built a Pro Street Camaro, a 69 I think 427 BBC..Did a very nice job.. Bad thing was when leaving car shows or cruise nights he liked to "put on a Show" [his words] by doing a burn out down the road..He got told to not come back several times..He also indulged in impromptu stop light racing, had to "prove himself" when challenged [again his words]..I tried to get him to take the car to the drag strip to no avail..He didn't want to drive it there in case he broke, I said I can provide a trailer..He said his truck wouldn't tow it, I said I'd tow it..And the excuses went on and on...

On the TV every weekend in almost every major Calif. city there are "side shows.
Mainly Mustangs and Camaros spinning donuts in the intersections over and over until their tires pop.
The police can't control it.They are now taking over freeways and bridges to "perform.
They even hit another driver on the freeway, ran him off the road then beat the hell out of him.
They caught up to them about a month later. They got probation.

A culture of anonymity brought on by WorldStarHipHop and any number of "watch what we can get THIS idiot to do" Cable shows and YouTube channels.... and an enlarged sense of entitlement to do whatever one wishes regardless of the consequences..... sad reflection on modern humanity

  20. But at 54 “the man show “should be over with.
I’m sure we have all done stupid things and have lived to tell the tails.
But in this day and age of taking people to court and all the legalities there about, common sense should take over.

I don’t drive a muscle car, I don’t ride bikes anymore as well. Why? Because I’m a speed freak!! I did a lot of street racing as a teen.
But they were set up in industrial areas late at night, streets blocked off etc ( actually pretty well set up even the cops left us alone as long as the crowds didn’t get to big) but now looking back it was still a potential recipe for disaster!!
So I don’t put myself in stupid situations anymore, I have a family and responsibilities plane and simple, I like to cruise and take my time, enjoy my coffee and relax.
You always, always need to see the risk in what ever you do. And for me losing everything I have for a moment of “ fun” or “bragging rights” or whatever just is not worth it.

Even if buddy doesn’t get sued, everyone who was hurt heels fast and 100% insurance covers all loses etc.
Buddy had a lot to deal with, the promoter of the show, the town etc. Etc. Head aches are always bigger then your own head, ENGAGE BRAIN BEFORE ENGAGING IN ANY ACTION !!!

Any one who would spend the time and money to build a "shorty" has to have a screw loose in the first place. It wound up being a fitting end for a Dumbass and his POS.

Guess I'll wade into this. A great example of why I gave up organized clubs. First we know the US is a "lawsuit" happy place. Now you belong to a private group that is not an LLC or other special provision corporate status, that puts on a show or other event with cars and an incident happens like this. A spectator, or participant, gets hurt, or worse, just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Miscreant that caused the incident has no insurance, no too far fetched these days in some states. The injured party, or their heirs sue. In some states the rule of "deep pockets" exists. In other words the person in the organization putting on the event with the deepest pockets ends up being sued. Probability is the guy who caused it has little to get from a lawsuit. The big clubs probably have binder insurance for the event itself but that is limited. Something to think about, nothing stops the injured party from suing anyone for damages above and beyond the binder limit. And your position in court will be tarnished by, in this case, the reckless actions of the person who caused the accident.

Many cruise nights are ruined by ignorance of powertripping monsters behind these powerheavy vehicles. It puts a dark cloud over the hobby and can end in a tragedy...sometimes the events promote this behaviour as in burnout contests...so it is a double edged sword sometimes. But as eluded we have to keep the racing at the track and be mindful of what we are fortunate to have. It could kill or maim.

Hmmmmm, can a person or organization be held financially liable for the reckless actions of another? Can someone reasonably be expected to know some guy is going to do something stupid and illegal? I'm not a lawyer and don't know the legal answers, but logically it doesn't seem right.

For what? Organizing a commercial venture that's been approved by the laws of the area? Because nobody is responsible for themselves if TV says it's ok? Because Bevis and Butthead played with lighters? Because "Two Lane Blacktop" was a movie about street racing and poisoned an entire generation? Let's get Lucas too, he did "American Grafitti" and was all about a street race. Don't forget "Hollywood Knights". Where does it stop?

I'll tell ya where, OVER THE TOP OF YOUR FUCKIN BATHROOM SINK. I'll translate,

    P E R S O N A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y.

Thank you, have a nice day...
