Another day, another violation notice....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A32Flathead, Jun 22, 2007.

  1. So,

several weeks ago we get a notice on the wagon saying....

Violation, it is not registered, and will be towed away if not registered in the next week. <!--emo&-->[IMG]<!--endemo-->

So...I spent a day at DMV...and got it registered & insured....

Still not running, but me & Yorgatron have been working on it every week on my day off.

Get home this afternoon (having been at work since 3.30am) and theres ANOTHER notice saying....

Violation....your car will be towed on Wednesday 27th....

    WTF?

I went to see the asshole in the office, but he wasn't there (handy huh!)

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Sorry....had to rant, and now need to find somewhere to put the car <!--emo&-->[IMG]

Here locally they don't tow anything until you refuse to work with them. Then it's quick and ugly.

The rule is, if it looks like a piece of shit and doesn't run, then you can't have it in the street, the driveway, or the backyard. Put it in the garage.

Registration is good, black tag is good, but flat tires, and disassembled wipes all that good out. Put it in the driveway with a nice cover on it, or move it to a storage garage. The zoning guys know who is working on their cars, and who is waiting for the patina to get ripe.

Dave, if you need a place to hide it for a few days, I live right across from Virginia park in Campbell. There is plenty of street parking if you have a way of getting it over here.

PM me if you are interested.

    Dave-

Non-running and non-tagged... even in your paved driveway, in front of your 2 car garage in your backyard, behind a locked fence and tarped here in yuppie Royal Oak, MI can get you a ticket...it's considered a "nuisance vehicle", "scrap" and "inoperable" and it's not tolerated. (I looked it up on their website to make sure I didn't get in trouble when I moved here.) It's a law designed to keep people from packing a bunch of junk cars in their backyard. Like what is allowed in Detroit.

Thankfully they aren't so vigilant as they are there in CA, unless you got a shitty neighbor all up in your business.

I wouldn't dare park a non-running vehicle in the street in front of my house here...BUT:

    My question is-
How do they know it's not running if it's tagged, and parked in the street? (looking legal?) If it doesn't look like complete shit with flat tires and all, I don't get what they ganked you for the 2nd time. Sounds like you got a cranky neighbor on your hands...

Yeah it is registered and insured, so it would not be a problem here.

I never leave a questionable vehicle in my driveway without a complete car cover....locked with a cable. If they can't see the car, or whether or not it has a plate, they can't do anything. I can refuse them permission to remove the cover without a search warrant.

Thats what you get for living in the cereal state (fruits, nuts and flakes), get the hell out 9 as soon as you can) and use the money you get from your inflated real estate ( I hope you own your home), to buy land somewhere where you can do as you please.
Life is to short to put up with assholes.

  12. photo copy and tape to inside of window your documents
move the car around .. change direction...so its not occupying the same damn spot

???? are the tags/documents legit.. a clever car flipper may be seeting up his next ride

lock the thing down with a heavy chain uncuttable cable...

    good luck

I had a portable car-tent/garage next to my garage for almost 2-years....finally...the only neighbor that couldn`t see it from his property decided to walk in my backyard once when I wasn`t around...saw it....complained to the city....and I had to take it down.He claimed that he shouldn`t have to look at it...even though you can`t see it from any part of his property!!!!

It was in plain-view to everyone else, and they didn`t have a single complaint...even the Chief of Police who lives behind me had no problem with it.

The United States needs to divide into two countries: One where people understand old cars, and another filled with people who suck.

even if it's a legal vehicle they have some BS law about it can't be parked on the street for more than 3 days without moving...or so I've been told. But in an apartment complex it seems to be private property...so who the hell gave ya notice? Man just move up here to Benicia...tehre's an awesome 2600 sq ft warehouse with living quarters for only $1800 (hell I'd even pitch in if ya wanted to share some space!)

Ahhh.... Apartments, they have their own set of rules and can make their own in addition to the city's. Get a good read on your lease. It was most likely your apt mgr who had the notice put on your car. Generally the city police could care less on apt lots.
    Good luck.
btw I have been on both sides of this... My Fairlane got a notice once because a tire went flat and it sat in the driveway like that for 3 days until I could get the tire fixed. I realized Code Enforcement was in the area but it was due to my A-hole neighbor and all his crap so they hit up everyone.

Just recently I called on him as he has 13 vehicles in his yard, on the side yard, backyard and taking up all the parking on the street in front of his house. The ones in the yard have been there for 2-3 years now. On top of that he has a bunch of rubbage that has been laying around since Dec. and earlier.

I know everyone gets upset about their "classic" being looked at as junk and threatened to be taken away but look at it realisticly.... nobody want's to look at someone elses junk or have them clutter up their neighborhood that they work so hard for.
Sorry had to vent and A32Flathead don't take any of this to mean you.
    Good luck with your situation.

  20. My daily driver ('68 Mustang) was parked in front of a realty office next door to my apartment for one day because I work graveyard and sleep during the day, and the damn realtor had it tagged as abandoned! Ridiculous! Parked it at 8 in the morning and when I go out to it at 10:30 at night it's a marked vehicle! I feel your frustration Dave!!

I think you should ask the apartment manager if he's the one who has been calling the police and explain to him that it will be fixed in a few days, he just may understand. If he doesn't, find out what he drives, let the air out of his tires and call the police and tell them it's an abandoned car!!! Paybacks's a Bitch huh???

I rolled my circle tracker out of the garage for a weekend while I drywalled my garage. Monday afternoon I got a notice to remove the disabled vehicle from my driveway or face fines. It was already back inside by the time I got the warning. I hate anti-car people.

That sucks. I had a car setting in My parking lot that was not reg. and the police gave me a ticket. I went the the police to fine out why they could give me a ticket in my own parking lot. They said that one of the neighbers had complain that there was an abanden car in the lot. As some of you know its the neighber that I have been having problems with.

Being a nice guy I was letting all of the neighbers using my lot. Well now there is a no parking, Vehicles will be towed sign in my lot. And guess who parked there one night. I which I could of seen the look on his face when his car was no there in the morning.

I also call the code official on them because they were living like pigs. Now they have 30 days to get the house up to code or it will be deem unfit for human habited.

What I an trying to say is find out if someone is call it in on you and make there life a living hell with out braking the law.

I wish people would just mind there own business and leave me alone.

They do not want to mess with me when I am have a bad day with my Post traumatic stress. Outcome my not be good.

The city tried that shit with me not too long ago. I went and got tags and insured every damn one of them and put covers over them. I told the city I had complied. The inspector came by and acted like he was gonna walk up and lift the cover and peek......I told him if you lift that cover or touch it in any way........I'll sue your ass (personally) for coming on private property and invasion of privacy, harrassment, and anything else can come up with. The city had seen the documents and were good with it so there was no need in his happy ass showing up snooping. No neighbors turned me in, the city has a nazi riding around in a truck taking down addresses.

  30. I've been in the same house for 15 years and there has always been at least one inoperable vehicle in the drive for most of that time. Not one complaint, ever.

I do use the snow blower to clear the neighbors driveways when they're at work; I keep the house and yard looking decent; I actually talk to most all of my neighbors everyday so they know I'm not a complete asshat. I guess I've been lucky.
