Pacemakers Raceway in Mount Vernon, Ohio is scheduled to be closed in 2 years time. It's a 1/8 mile concrete strip, but a new housing subdivision is going in overtop of it. They're proposing to replace the strip with something like 75 housing units and 20 condos . . . I'm speechless.

  2. That's BULLSHIT. Fuck the condos. Build them over a Starbucks or something.

Thats gonna be a long wait!

  9. I drove past the site of the now-deceased Carlsbad Raceway last weekend... they didn't even pull up the asphalt, they just stuck 60+ feet of dirt over the top of it, to fill up the canyon.
Bastards. I hope that their high-priced Industrial building doesn't get one damned renter, and it stays empty for it's whole life.

Save those old drag strip photographs boys. If you don't it will be hard to describe to the grandchildren what a drag strip was.

That stinks... so why are they closing? Are track owners not making $? If not, why? If they are making $, but want more... then be pissed at them for being a turncoat... not the malls & industrial parks.

Seems like the dragstrips in my neck of the woods are doing well... with the excepting of the occational $700K new home owner who doesn't like the noise... but so far those threats have been silienced. Heck, tracks seem so busy we've gone to a different track for test & tune (1965 Plymouth Satellite 440 w/ Edelbrock STR 15 11.80ET... on pump gas)... local track just doens't have them enough. Weekends are "events" only.

:rolleyes:Becreative... Shopping malls & industrial parks are afterhours dragstrips, roundy-round tracks, and road courses...

I'm glad that our old track keystone raceway in western Pa didn't go this route , some racers with money (the Tedescos) bought it and completely refurbished it into the new Pittsburgh raceway. The best part is I only live a mile & half away;)

Mt. Vernon is about an hour northeast of columbus on the 3c highway and you'll actually get to the strip before you get to town.

We (the roaddevils) have been talking to this place about doing a regular thing on the weekends or somethin this is news to me.

What you heard is true. everything has just pretty much started on the deal but she is getting torn down and belly button homes are going up. The big books are not even made yet or anything like that so i have no inside info. The dicks who are building everything up we do most of the work for them so I am sure my company will be out there tearing her apart.

Let start setting something up if i remember right test and tune is friday nights. who up for starting going up and running the track? If we get enough people who show intrest and i'll give them a call and see if we can set something up special.

Pacemakers Dragway. 8926 Columbus Rd. 397-2720. Mount Vernon, OH 43050-4405 ... mapquest it
    http://www.pacemakersdragwaypark.com/

    ITs an 1/8 mile track

I work in the Knox County Map Department and all new subdivisions come through our office before they get approved. This sub hasn't gone through the entire approval process, but I've seen the plat and the process has begun.

I talked to my boss today and the sub is larger than I though. He said it was near 700 units. What has the world come to?

Umm, MoKan dragway in Asbury, MO ring any bells? Speaking of which, the owner of MoKan won his lawsuit against the butthole that owns a lot of Springfield MO. Tracks been there since early 60's and the butthole wanted it shut down because he moved out there and it was bothering him.

Unless you're speaking of a HAMB owned dragstrip.

i'm game. my 283's better suited to a longer track due to a late-blooming cam and 2 speed powerglide, but i'll run the impala. never went down a strip before, been wanting to for a long time. pat, if you're gonna talk to em, make sure ya keep us posted. i'd LOVE to be able to pave a whole 1/4 mile and shutdown here on the family farm. i think about that EVERY time i look out and see the subdivisions getting closer and closer to my place...
