It shows that just dropping by to let him know you are still interested pays off in the long run. That's a great looking Merc for sitting out in a shed for the past 40 years.

That engine might be the supreme candidate for the "free up the rusted pistons" concoctions that the guys have come up with in other threads.

i always figured merc john would get that merc. i seen her back in the late 90's he used to have on the side of that shed with his pickup in front of it.
does he still have his ford sedan. i used to stop and see him but i gave up when i got two mercs in my line up. it sure it nice to he he cashed in on it and not his family after he leaves this world . i could be wrong but i think he had the motor out of it and on the ground back then.
i bought a desoto grille off his neibor's kid behind him back in 2000

thats where i spotted it too was on the side.. not to long after is when he decided to cover it up. he masked all the stainless and rattle canned all the surface rust too which was kinda funny. he told me he had it rebuilt at one time before he parked it. his neighbor bought the 40 i ran into the neighbor one day and talked about it. the offers he had were always kinda low in his mind so it just sat. he actually did the primering and cleaned the inside all out since i last looked at it. i think he was kinda sad cuz he was realizing that he wasnt going to get around to it....

  12. That oil change receipt. You mean to tell me an oil change back then was $175? Nawww, $17.50 even sounds high, but it is CA so anything could be I guess. All of it was non-taxable? In CA ... ?? No way nowdays ... Cool ride though, I like those 51's better than the '49's and '50's. Like the two bullets in front and tail lights ..
