Look in any old Hot Rod Magazine between '48 and '54...The '41 convert was the TYPICAL FORD, in California Bill's ads as well as others...(Belond Equa Flo exhaust systems, So-Cal Speed Shop, etc.)

This car looks su****iously like the one parked in front of the Rathbun Service station that brought HAMBER Rathbun home from the hospital...(without the white wheel spats, however)
How long was it in Missouri?
Glad you found it, we know it's well loved.

Don't give up on those stuck valves just yet. A buddy bought a 42 Ford coupe that included a complete 2dr sedan parts car that sat for over 20 years. Just for ****s and giggles I tried to get it started. Some ATF in a spray bottle on the stream setting allowed me to hit the valve stem through the spark plug hole. A screwdriver was used to pop the valve closed. After a few times the ATF worked, the valve quit sticking and the old engine purred like a kitten. It's not a big effort and well worth it if it works and very rewarding. Maybe 2 hrs?

I once had a 41 Woody with the stock flatty. I like the 41 better than your later model 'vert. I always enjoy the clean up part of an old car. I bet you do too. I keep thinking what the car is thinking when someone finally takes an interest in it and starts fixing stuff that has lingered for years. I think the car is smiling inside. It's really looking good.

Well Lodi ****ing Dah. Go figure Chris get's an old Ford up and running again. I mean c'mon man, why don't you update us when you've done something new......like made something go fast. :D We know you can get old Ford running, but where the trick overly gusseted frames and dimple died everything. Where the chopped tops and sectioned bodies. You have no taste....I hate you.

Naw, I love your momma though. Alright, I'm back and I'm sorry. I love it and your taste.....and your inability to ever make a fast hot rod. :D

  4. I am happy for you Chris, you made the right move. Never let a chance go by, at least that's what I used to tell myself back in my dating days. Works well with buying old cars too.

I p***ed on this one last year and kicked myself ever since. It was a Merc, decent car aside from the mud, but cool ol custom. Dual carbs and dropped axle. It was 4500.00. I didn't have the money. Knew I could barrow it but didn't want to pull the trigger until I talked to my ol man on a loan. Called the guy an hour later and it was sold!

Yeah, not giving up on it quite yet, but regardless if it runs or not will probably swap it out. My ol man has built Merc flattys for all the Emperors rides and I want one in this heavy ol pot! I gotta be able to bomb down the road :D

That's a sweet car and you got a great deal. I'm partial to convertibles myself and '41's are rare birds in my part of the country. Congratulations!

Sorry man, I'm up against a brick wall now...I do not want to sell ANYTHING I have...I usually don't get too attached to cars but that 33 pickup and 34 roadster I do not think will ever leave!

That Merc was soooo cool! The mud in it scared me, it was cracking all over the place but I think it would have been alright. But otherwise it was a very decent car. Probably could have got it running. I would like to see what it looked like back in it's hay day!

Chris, Sweet deal ! Once you get it running, I would shorten the hood trim, reverse both springs, drop the stock axle . . . . That will do for a start.
Polish that old paint and enjoy the day lights out of it . . . .

Ok, so I dove into the engine tonight. It's always a nice find to see adjustable lifters inside! It took me FOREVER to pull the head off...finally wiggled it off. It got a lot of dirt knocked in the lifter valley and head surface from yanking the intake and head that I have to clean. Either way, got the two stuck valves moving and everything looks great. The flash makes the engine look rusty/grungy but in person it looks super decent. She'll run again :D

Sorry man, I don't think I could ever sell that pickup.

  25. If your talking about the '41 coupe with the most *****in' chop ever! The last I heard was it's sold pending payment to another Inland Emperor.

As for Spokane Chris, this just reaffirms my belief that you have a lucky magnetic horseshoe shoved up your......:D that naturally attracts awesome old cars to you. I can't wait to see the new drop top in person.

Ok, so I cleaned on the ol bird this weekend, got the engine all cleaned up and another head on it. I rebuilt the carb tonight and got another intake cleaning (had an 8BA intake on it and I wanna put a 59AB intake on it now). Hopefully she'll be running soon. I also got the front seat out and cleaned the whole inside. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot less rust then I thought! Bought a nice replated grill and also a 41 fordor for parts. I looked at this car a while back, and it has just enough stuff on it I figured I needed it. It was super cheap, and i can hopefully part it out and get some money back.
