Hot Rods another ford nine inch question

    im tired of searching so here goes.I have a 57 nine inch can't find drums at a decent price.I do have 64 galaxie brakes and drums complete can i use large bearing backing plates and make them work on my small bearing 57 I really don't want to go to disc any suggestions. Junk yards up here are no help

    not really...the backing plate centers on the wheel bearing....at least it does on the big bearing 57 rear I just put back together this morning.

    I wonder if any of the 8" brakes and axles would work? the axle lengths would probably be different.
     
  3. I used 66 Fairlane 8 inch backing plates,brakes etc on my 1959 small bearing 9 inch. I had to machine the edges of the drums to stop an interference problem but it worked out great!
     
  4. They will; the 8" and 9" use the same 28 spline axle end (if you have/want 31 spline, that's another story), I've used 8" axles in narrowed 9" rears to avoid buying custom axles.
