Hi, I'm from Tauranga in New Zealand. I hate to admit it on this forum but I'm a 4WD guy more than a hot rod/custom guy. Anything mechanical has my attention. I appreciate hot rods and customs though. Saying that I enjoy anything that converts hydrocarbons to noise. My background is I grew up in the country at Ramarama (south of Auckland). My Dad ran a one truck carrying business so I spent most of my youth in his workshop tinkering with stuff. Through my Dad and some of his mates I got into vintage tractors and steam/diesel trains. My uncle drove stock cars (NZ bash and crash type stock cars) at Wiakaraka Park when I was young before becoming the crew chief on a saloon car so I spent most Saturday nights during the summer at speedway. At university and for a while afterwards I belonged to a preservation society that operated a pre WWII coal fired steam tug on Auckland Harbour. I then shifted to Gisborne for work. There I got back into speedway, first crewing for a TQ midget team and then for a solo bike guy. For the last few years in Gisborne I crewed for a B-grade saloon team (basically a street car with a rollcage and no gl***. In Gisborne I did help one of my workmates with his XY Falcon project. While in Gisborne I also learnt to fly and got involved in the aviation museum there. I've flown serveral types of aircraft including a 1938 de Havilland Tigermoth. When I shifted to Rotorua I got into 4WDing and ended up co-driving in a supercharged Lexus V8 powered coil sprung Toyota Hilux in the winch challenge scene. I'm currently building a Nissan Patrol cab/tube deck winch challenge truck with a Nissan 4.5L quadcam V8. Manual shift auto, external rollcage, 35" tyres, etc, etc. For some weird unexplainable reason I want something with a flathead V8 in it. I don't really care if it is a Bren gun carrier, a truck or a car. To pay the bills I work for an engineering consultancy as a civil/roading engineer.
That was a very interesting intro - Thank you! Stick around awhile this place has been known to grow on ya. Perhaps that "weird unexplainable" flathead urge is the real you trying to get out... Welcome!
Good Intro, but this board will sooner or later get'cha..................and you will be looking for a 'A' to put that hoped for Flathead in it. Welcome to the H.A.M.B.............from Arkansas City, KS. firstnomad www.angelfire.com/jazz/flatlandstudio
