Today after work I stopped by Neal East's Colorado Car Books to check out the latest magazines. I walk up to the door and see store closing signs--everything marked down. I thought maybe Neal was just moving again---rent in Denver is outta sight these days. But, no dice. Slumping sales and increasing overhead has helped Neal come to the decision to close the store and start enjoying a well deserved retirement. I've been a customer of Neal's since he opened up in the early '90s. His store is one of the most unique places around. If you needed old magazines, books, the latest magazines or old repair manuals, he had it. Plus tons of great artwork and occasional interesting automotive memorabilia. All at a fair price. Plus, every now and then he'd host a cruise night that would bring out cars that you never see anywhere else. Hands down, his cruise nights were some of THE BEST. Anyway, he is hoping to be all shut down by June 1st at the earliest, or July 4th at the latest--either way, Car Books will be no more. If you get a chance, stop by and look around and hopefully purchase some of his leftover inventory and help a great guy out. Man, this really sucks...............E
I'm sure he would sell you anything you want, and I wouldn't think shipping would be a problem. Get your wish list together and give him a call. The store is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10-6 or 7. 303-762-8595. E
That's kind of bittersweet. Cool that the dude can relax but it's another place I won't see. That under-sprung roadster was very cool. Heard he put that car upside down somehow, yikes!
Sad to hear it...never got to see the place or meet Neal...has he ever considered doing mail order only? Just wondering...
Fell asleep coming back from a rod run...slipped it into the ditch at speed and flipped it twice...fortunately, the car was built solidly and he wasn't hurt...just bruised up a bit. The car is now being rebuilt...and he now owns a '32 5-window, flattie powered with whites, steel wheels and small caps. Oh yeah, blak of course. Don't think he's considered it...and no, he does not have a web-site. R-
That is really too bad....... So many cool places have come & gone around here; The "old" F&M (when they were on Federal), the "old" Max Hill's Maximum Auto Parts, Kenz & Leslie (the V8 Shop and the wholesale warehouse), and even the old Super Shops...
