Hey all, names Big-Bob (all 280 pounds of me) I just became a member here. I have found myself here many times while trying to find information by searching Google, so I figured it must be time to join. I don't really know whether I belong here or not. I am employed as a local city fleet services mechanic, which means I mostly work on newer vehicles. But that is a job. My hobby is old vehicles, hot rods, and drag racing. I am not into any of the new electronic technology and emissions stuff on todays cars. In fact I refuse to own a car/truck with a computer on it. I don't mind sharing what I know about these things, but they are not part of my hobby. I have belonged to several classic car/hot rod forums, and the latest technology seems to be what they all want. If that is the way it is here, just let me know, and I'll be on my way. I have no desire to offend anyone. Thanks, Bob.
Sounds like you'll fit in here well. We like old stuff around here.... What kinda wheels ya rollin? Here's a couple local threads to get ya started... Saturday HAMB cruise.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=705479 Hikes out to the sticks to check out old cars and mines and such... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=669534 Lots of action from local guys on those two threads.
Thanks for all thee welcomes. Car is a 1964 Fairlane with a well built 351W and 4 speed. This is a 4 door sedan "sleeper" car that has surprised a lot of people. Not a show car by any means, it's my daily driver. Also have a 1972 Pinto woodgrain station wagon, completely stock, and a 1993 Chevy S10 pickup I bought a couple of years ago. Standard cab, short bed, 2WD, 4.3 V6 5 speed. Since I refuse to drive anything with a computer/emissions crap on it, I removed all that stuff, now running an Edelbrock manifold, Edelbrock 500 cfm carb, headers, and a true dual exhaust out the back. I was just going to drop in a small block, but I have never done a V6 before. Have not had it apart yet. Was in a hurry to get it going in it's current configuration. Runs much better without all the technology on it. Rode my '53 Panhead through Mammoth from Oracle Junction to Globe-Miami a few weeks ago.
Welcome Bob. I'm in downtown. Come on down to the McDonalds just south of Indian School on Central this Saturday night around 7. We have a little hang out going on, and it should be pretty decent this weekend. I'd like to check out that Fairlane. Stop by, and I'll buy you an icecream cone. Be sure to check out Nick's Ford, he's got a cool pickup with what I believe is a 351.
I've been to the Pavillions many times, usually take the Pinto. You may have seen it. I have never seen a car get so much attention. I have never seen another one there. You can park it right next to a totally restored '65 Vette, and it's the Pinto people ooh and aah over. You expect to see fully restored classic cars at a car show, but I haven't seen a Pinto in decades. I've also had the Fairlane there, it doesn't really get any attention, it was built for go not show.
Bob, next time ya ride thru Mammoth, stop at the Circle K and call me, Im the Christy Crow, in the book. I got a '62/'66, Pan / Shovel that I been riding for bout 40 years now. Stop and ask for Crow,,,everybody in Mammoth knows me !
