Another newbie from Texas

My father and I just purchased a 49 4 door mer rat rod. It's an early rat rod and needs a lot of minor things to be drivable. I am wondering what you guys recommend for guages that are not working: rebuild, replace? Car has painless harness, but gauges don't work. Might consider replacing small gauges with newer replacements if same diameter.
