this leak is driving me nuts. it's a '68 gen 1 SBC with the crank case vent tube next to the distributor. the oil puddles on the block below the PS head then runs down the side of the block and fills the starter. the rear of the block is dry from the top until you get to the about the second bell housing bolt up from the bottom. after wiping everything clean i can get a couple of tables****s of oil on the shop floor after a 5 mile drive. the oil sender is dry, the crank case vent tube is dry, the base of the distributor is dry, the rear corners of the valve covers are dry and the joint at the rear of the intake manifold is dry. the rear main seal looks good and the oil is well above it any way. is there any way this is coming from the rear of the PS head? thanks.

    >> "PS head" = Power steering pump ???

Wrap strips of paper towel around all hose connections to the "PS head" and secure them with twist-ties or zip-ties. Drive it a bit and look for the oil soaked paper.

Sorry to be so dumb. What’s a PS head? Power steering above the starter side has me stumped.

  7. Clean everything off .

If everything is dry like your saying
Add dye to the oil and inspect with a black light after driving for a bi
You will see the source of the leak right easy.

sounds like a crack or plug loose.
had an 80’s era 350 with a minor leak on the left side of the block after a lot of screwing around discovered it was a loose pipe plug behind the engine mount.
Could not see it with the mount in place.
