Been reading the site for quite awhile. Figured it was about time I made an intro thread. I was given a 49 Chevy Styleline by a friend who was about to scrap it. I've been slowly collecting parts to get it back on the road. I have a 235 from a 61 Impala and a T4 from an S10 to get it running. For suspension I picked up an 89 Jaguar XJS as a donor. So that's the plan for now. I'm looking at transplanting the V12 from the Jag as some point in the future, but I'd like to get it up and running with what I have right now to get everything sorted. This will be a fairly quick and cheap build to get it running by next year for my road trip / marriage / honeymoon.
Welcome from Arcadia! You will have to check out the Okie HAMBer group here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=30 And, your 49 should make a cool project. I had a 52 not long ago that I really enjoyed.
Hey Neighbor! Welcome from Edmond! Living on the Edmond / Piedmont County Line. Good Grief, by all means get it done before the wedding!
Thanks for the welcome. I have most of the parts to get things going now. I'll need to track down glass pretty soon though. Pulled the front subframe and drained the 7 gallons of 10 year old gas out of the tank last night.
I have the Jaguar front subframe mounted with the rubber bushings but I had to build a rear cross to hang the diff from in the rear. Hopefully the ride doesn't suffer too much. I don't know how the ride height will work out between the two. Hopefully I can get the front low enough without compromising the suspension geometry in the front too much. I have the engine pretty much where it's going to go and the transmission crossmember fabbed up. I fabbed the side mounts for the 235 but haven't welded the perches to the frame yet. I'm having a hell of a time welding to this frame. I grind and clean and grind but things still bubble up with contamination. Anyways things are moving along slowly. I only have about another 7 months to get this thing road worthy.
Well I'm not sure if everyone would consider my build "traditional". It's certainly going to have some parts that aren't, but I'm building it with what I have and with my own two hands.
