I am betting that the frame is tweaked after looking at it in person. That car would be a pain in the *** to fix, and will likely be written off as a total. It ****s, but damage repair will surely exceed the worth of the car..

One way or another, the insurance will work itself out, and we will see pete and the family cruising something new by spring.

  3. It just needs to be combined with another one that needs floors and rockers and so on. Instead of replacing all that, use it to replace the top of this. If the frame's tweaked, use the donor car frame. A lot of work to be sure, but people have done as much with worse.

Sorry to hear about this Pete. Rich (fuelpump) told me at lunch today.
I think we need to have a club thrash to get that T sedan into roller status.

what a bummer! I'd have to agree, anything can be fixed but doesn't look like to me this one whould be worth it. Too much time and $$$ for what it is. Not that hard to find, you could buy another car like it for less. I'd just salvage anything left thats good and let it go. Still sad to see a decent old car tore up that bad thou.

My insurance requires car to be in locked garage as part of contract. But I have regular Allstate insurance with an appraisal because it's a cl***ic daily driver. Good luck.

  14. Sorry to hear about the damage to the '51. I was standing at the turnstile waiting to leave work when that hit. A couple of co-workers were slightly injured by flying debris, and I couldn't get home fast enough to check for damage. Fortunately, none at my place, but a 1/4 north and south of me got clobbered. I'm a bit north of you,HRG,and drive through that area on the way home. Saw sections of damage followed by areas that didn't seem to be touched, followed by more damage. Weird, typical Michigan weather.

Waiting on insurance company. If I get to keep it, I'll part it out. If not, I'm not gonna worry about it.

  17. Hate to see one get totaled, but **** happens.

I hope all goes well with the insurance Co. I know more than one rodder (including myself) that has come out ahead on a deal like this. Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones.

when the neighbors tree fell on my buddie's 59 Chevy last year he was told by his home owners insurance and his neighbors that the car has to have it's OWN insurance in order to be covered. home owners insurance does not cover cars. not in Michigan anyways... real sorry to hear about this Pete.

I had a similar experience but with a wild fire, basically anything that was in the building or on my property that burned up was covered under the homeowner policy, if it was my property, anyone else's property was not. Additionally, any of my vehicles, had they burned, would not have been covered by my homeowners insurance, they would've been covered by the individual auto policy. I was storing several old trucks (mine) and a couple of boats(not mine) and they all were burned to a crisp. One was an 69 Olds 442 from a fellow in NJ, was not covered, total loss, not covered by insurance. Hint: Check your policies.

So does Grundy, and I wondered about that.

But, this is from their website....

Is my car covered while parked outside or left unattended?

Underwriters will want to know that you take extraordinary care of your collector car and will require that you have a garage for it when it is not in use. However, leaving a car unattended or in the driveway overnight is not the basis for denying a claim

My lady (Nicole) on the phone asked why it was outside. Told her it was on jackstands with the transmission out. "Oh, ok." We'll see. An adjuster should be out today or tomorrow.
