I went to a yard today that was loaded. mid 50s to early 60's And these cars were not picked clean either. Lots of complete nailheads and rockets and lots more. The problem was that the guy was too friendly. Half way though a word the guy would start in with a story. We spent an hour there and still didn't get any prices except that he recently sold a '51 ford coupe for $600. I couldn't get a straight answer about much of anything. I asked about the nailheads (which he calls boat anchors) and he goes into a story about how he got one of them or what years had them and so on. but at least he was nice.

I just hit a yard in Fort Worth guy that owns it is good people seemed shocked that a young guy was interested in the old metal. I scored the front and rear bummpers off of a 55 poncho and the center pan for the front bumpers all in great shape for $135. Since I'm out of work its going on ebay to pay the bills, but there still out there and it dosnt always cost a fortune. He has alot of fords so anyone in the dallas fortworth area needs some **** I'll trade info for some other junkyard locations eye for an eye.

He has work to do. HIS property. HIS junk yard. His business. Hit the road.

    Thanks, McCray

Yep. That one seemed aimed at me...

My aren't you just a happy little ray of sunshine. What are you the president of? The cranky old fart's club? [IMG]

I give respect where respect is due. Smokin' Joe gets my respect. I happen to agree with most of the stuff he wrote on this thread.

If I go into a yard and some sunbaked, half deaf, cranky old ******* is giving me the run-a-round....he does NOT get my respect.

I don't care how old the guy is. If he's an ***, its likely he was an *** as a young fella too. Sometimes age doesn't add anything except wrinkles and stink.....and by the way.... I USED to respect my elders no matter what. Till I found that sometimes these ***holes will jerk you around no matter what....

I know Eric very well..My Dad use to hit that place when he was younger,so did my Grandpa when he was alive. There is alot of history there cause all of my family is from that area...My Dad & I were/have been very fortunate to go there and have our freedom over the years..
However, a couple of years back when i had my 53 Chevy i broke a joint in the torque tube just as i got back from the show in Indy. I couldnt locate the part anywhere! I called Eric & told him what i needed in wich he replied 'I have about 3 complete torque tubes/drivelines..Come by this weekend to pick them up'. I take off from work to make the same drive as you did only to hear those very same words! I was crushed!! Getting verbal doesnt do anything either..
You just dont understand how this guy is...He hates city folks & hotrodders..Showing up with new cars & nice clothes do not go over well at all either..I have pics that i'll have to post later..Everytime i visited there since i was like 8,,i've taken pictures and have been able to get alot of great parts out of there..He is sitting on millions already & is grandfathered so he just does not give a f@#$ what you want or need from him..
There is about 4 other yards i know about up that way but they are just as hidden as Eric & just as nutty..
I was planning on taking some of my guys up there so they could see some of the cars that are still left in there. It seems like ever since he got sued,,he hasnt let anybody in!
Its too bad cause that is a awesome yard in my opinion!

I came to collect an old car that was in the barn and now he had a trailer load of hay bails standing in the way.
They only needed to be thrown up in the loft.He would,nt
even let me freshen up after the job was done.

DDR, when I think about it, I have been going to Eric's yard since before you were born! I have never been disrepectful to him nor have I done anything to piss him off other than over the years to arrive in my newer and cleaner trucks. I don't dress in any particularly offensive manner (well, I don't have cow **** all over me from head to toe as he generally does) and I always thank him for letting me have access to the yard. And, after this trip proved futile, I told him we understood, although we didn't, and that we would come back after haying season was over, if that was okay. Whether it is or not, I don't know. But, I will go back and hope that his at***ude improves.
Incidentally, Tom if you are in a mood to divulge the location of the other yards you mentioned, I would sure like to know where they are as I and some of the "Gimps and Geezers" (and your father being retired is officailly a member) would like to take another trip north to wander through the fields of dreams.

Weekendr, you just don't get it! While you are right, it is his property and all that, it isn't right to f#*k with people under the guise of "he's got work to do." If that were the case then he shouldn't have his wife tell people one thing when clearly he has another agenda. If it's haying season it's haying season and he damn well knows he will be working. And, if it's haying season and it is raining, then wouldn't it be more appropriate for his wife to say he WOULD be in the yard because it WAS raining NOT that he wouldn't be? I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone, but in your case I'll make an exception, you are a horse's ***!

150 miles out would be in my back yard unless it's going the other direction. I can say the weather (wet) is **** for getting hay in, last year was a disaster and most haven't got much in this year. Like gas, when it's scarce it's expensive. Add that to the outrageous property taxes leached out of us, everyone's at***ude is lousy in the sticks.
On the bright side you could stop by the reservation for tax free gas and gamble away your parts money. At least some residents of the communist state of NY are prospering.

Rodrelic, the yard I'm talking about is outside Watertown, so it does seem to be in the opposite direction. Now, as far as some residents of our glorious state making some dough, they probably aren't indians because they live on the Res which is NOT part of NY. Or so they claim. Yeah, right. Anyway, my wife just loves the casinos and if she's happy so am I!

Well all I can say is life ****s and **** happens! If he is a ***** then he has a right to be.

We have a yard near here that is not an operating yard. I dont know when it closed but it hasnt been officially open since my 18 years here. But if you drive there and get lucky to find the owner, I have been in it a couple times and even bought a part once. The facts are there is a ton of excellent cars, and not at all picked over. The guy has sold parts, he will NOT sell any whole car! The only thing I have heard as to why is that his insurance doesnt cover it. I still cant figure out what this has to do with it. Anyway its his stuff more power to him. We can complain forever. I personally would like to see these cars on the road in stead of rusting away, although out here there really is no such thing as rust. The fact is he owns it and its his stuff, thats no worse then buying stuff and throwing it on ebay to make a buck.

Satin, what you said was right.("Life ****s and **** happens! if he is a ***** then he has a right to be.")

Oldandkrusty, Apparently you have a problem with me. You don't even know me. And you have a right to be the ***** you appear to be.

Most junk yard owners I know are all just like Eric. You should have talked to him instead of taking someone else's word. You are complaining about the wrong person. I do believe you have a problem with his wife lying to you.

BTW if you want to start a name calling game, then you can just kiss this "Horse's ***." Last time I looked, I was allowed to have an opinion.

Weekendr, you're right. I did take his wife's word and that is my fault. However, there have been previous trips that ended just as bad when , after saying he would be open, he decides after I had gotten there that, no that ain't the case. So, apparently to your way of thinking, if you feel like being a ***** for whatever reason it's okay while it's not okay for me to think that it's not acceptable behavior.
I also don't think that if a person feels like stealing someone else's property that it is acceptable just because that person thinks it is alright.
Also, you are right, I don't know you and perhaps if I did I would understand your response to my original post. I was confused, apparently. If not, oh well.

face it if you get on the bad side of these old coots you ain't got enuff money to get a part.the reason they have the parts is they are on the crazy side.most yards only keep stuff thats a few years old now.i have had yards tell me that they dont have nothing for a 75 lincoln[it too old !!!] .hey go there again bring some donuts and coffee.believe it or not it helps.

  16. There's a place near here (off of RT 30 / 33 - if you neave anywhere near here, you know where this place is!) and my brother in law and i decided to go there for a radio for his 56 Caddy. We find one and bring it up to the shop. The owner says something like "Radios are $50 if they don't work, but $75 if they do" (this was back in the 80's when original AM radios went for $25 at swap meets all day long!!!). My b-i-l says, "No problem. I'll just pay $75 for it and ***ume that it works!" the owner argues, "NO I HAVE TO know whether it works!" My b-i-l reminds him that he IS willing to pay the higher "working" price even if we don't test it, but as we argue, this clown is hooking wires up to a car battery and some speakers at the end of the counter... After he lets ALL of the smoke out of the radio and chomps his cigar and says "Nah, this radio probably doesn't work! $50!!!"

    STORY #2:

At the time I was working on a 71 Charger in my free time. We're driving home from visiting the parents one weekend, and I like trying new roads to get there & back. I happened to notice a junkyard clearly visible across the little valley on this new road that I was on. So I stop on the side of the road and pulled out my binoculars to scope it out. In the middle of the yard were two nearly identical 71-72 Chargers sitting side by side, a blue one and a green one. I drove down there and went inside the building. Telling the guy behind the counter that I'm restoring a 71 Charger, he interrupts me and says "We don't have anything that old in here!" I erply "A buddy of mine was in here a few days ago and saw a green one and a blue one sitting side by side about halfway up the hill, in the middle of the lot." His reply "We just had our crusher in here yesterday and we crushed a LOT of stuff. I'm sure that they're gone." I shrugged & left. WTF? Are these places in business to actually SELL parts???

A couple of the pull it yourself places here often have a fairly expensive and desirable part destroyed because some clown was too lazy to take the thing apart right to get to the part behind it that he probably stuck in his pocket and walked out with.

I'd agree that offering to help the old gent with his haying might go a long way in being able to get a few parts or maybe a whole car from him.

I have a friend in San Antonio with quite tha collection of stuff..it is the chase, the deal, the possession to him. He goes through the process, gets a bargain, parks the car or whatever and thats it. On to the next one. They never get worked on, never get sold, no parts, nothing. I am able to deal with him as we have been friends for along time. Some people are just that way...

You hit the nail right on the head Joe, I had...had is the key word here... a worthless pc of **** son-in-law who wanted to be a Fireman and worked seasonal for the CDF and drew his unemployment the other 6 months, offered him numerous cash jobs around the place to help make ends meet....March Madness was in full swing and making ends meet was unimportant. Thank god she had her daddy's horse sense and moved on.

matter of fact i have helped throw bales (250) to look at some old car parts. So we can probably stop these younger generation cracks.

the reason he has the vintage iron is because he's a **** to deal w/. Call again and see if you can talk to him. He might have been having a battle w/ the wife.

dad and I used to do this for a farmer that owned an old gravel pit . he only let a few people fish it so we always cought the hell out of the b*** in there. and in return we would always look for a small job we could do while out there. never said anything to him about it just did it, once we shoveled gravel back into the potholes in the lane, or chopped thistles out of his pasture or repaired a broken wooden gate. he let us fish there anytime we wanted till he p***ed then the farm sold so no more fishing.

If he did that (or you yourself somewhere else) then you would never be welcome back there again. And the old guy would probably live to 105 and keep you away.

Trimmed your post down to what it was worth. You can rant all you like, about us making you and raising you and all the other tired ****.

Truth is that a great many of you will never be even close to the previous generation in terms of things that count.
Things like patience, understanding, respect, work ethic, the list goes on.

And little things like knowing how to make a friend of an old guy and getting what you want the old fashioned way.

I have been fortunate to have been brought up to respect my elders and I have been fortunate enough to have made some great friends who are substantially older than I am. I love the stories, the sincere friendship, and the willingness to share their vast knowledge (I'm 38).

I will say that I have had a horrible experience with the only real pick and pull around here. I knew going into it that the fellow was a bit ornery, so I was especially polite when asking him for help in finding a wheel. We went out to the yard and said her ya go- and handed the wheel over. I paid my fee and thanked him. Got home and realized that it was a '50 wheel and not the '53 that I needed. I brought it back and apologized for not catching the mistake (even though it was not my fault) and asked if we could go find another. "I don't have one, but I'll call you when I get one from my buddy"- yeah right. It has been a year, multiple trips to his yard, and he gets more pissed every time I show up. I have been nothing but nice and this ***** still has my money.

I thought about going back with a baseball bat and taking out a windshield on an old car, but that would only be ruining someone else's future project, and bad karma for me. But man, what a f*cking ***! I'm telling everyone to stay the hell away from there- let him die with all of his toys.
