After searching around looking at stuff I have settled on a 59 9 inch. Any issues or comments on look/availability?

    Thanks

  3. any 9" with a smooth punkin is good say '57 or.
12 bolt GM were popular in the early to mid 60s are were the ****er for the dragster types. mid 50s pontiac or olds were also popular.
Some of the lighter cars were still running quick change rears. Halibrands were real popular in N Cal.

I believe a 9-inch was not so popular back in the 60's, seems that all the old drag cars always mentioned running the big Olds/Pontiac rearends, the ones from late 50's/early 60's.

Most GM's used a drop out center until 1964. Chev is interchangable from 55-64.

57 Pontiacs were considered bulletproof. The 55-56 Ford wagon and delivery had a narrow Dana 44 thats pretty tuff too but has a bolt-on cover instead of a baby-****. Most had real good gears, like 3:64 or lower. The 57-59 Ford 9" is the same width as the 55-56 Ford but stronger.

I used a 55 Ford p***enger with 3:86 gears under my 31 since it looks good and I aint gonna break it with that little S2D mill.
